outstanding hospitality, lovely scenery, delicious food

Overall: 4.5 stars Teisui provided an excellent overnight stay. The service and hospitality were great, even by Japan's usual high standards...starting with a by-name, bow-and-scrape welcome upon making my way into the rainy parking lot. Don't even try to carry your own luggage! More bow-and-scrape synchronized greetings from the waiting hotel staff followed at the front entrance. Reception took place over a cup of coffee in the light-toned, modern-styled lounge (with huge windows looking onto the Sea of Japan) and concluded with a brief walking tour of the facilities and a detailed explanation of the room's classy features and appointments. The included dinner and breakfast were elaborate and delicious. They were served in a sea-facing dining room with shoji screen-divided sections for the occupants of each room. The kaiseki-style dinner consisted of (several too) many courses, each carried to the room and table in a ritual bow-and-scrape fashion. I particularly liked the shabu-shabu dish of tai (sea bream) followed by a couple of succulent slices of delicious roast beef. The public baths consisted of one indoor pool and a rotenburo (outdoor pool). The latter was particularly nice, affording wonderful sea views and cool breezes. As for quibbles: wifi was available in the lounge, but not the room; and the room windows lacked a screened window -- it would have been lovely to enjoy the fresh air at night. Overall, I thought Teisui was well worth the splurge and would recommend it to others.

Beautiful hotel with great views of sea

This was easily one of our favourite hotels on this trip to Tohoku. The room was spacious and the windows opened out to a lovely view of the setting sun. The rotenburo (outdoor onsen) was a bit smaller than the indoor onsen but had a nice look-out over the sea. The location was near Cape Nyudo but since we were on a driving holiday, it was not a problem for us. Our group of 16 had dinner and breakfast in a private room. Food and service were excellent.

    Nice upmarket resort

We were caught in the snow and was 8pm when we arrived. Missed the sunset view. The onsen, consisting indoor and outdoor, was fantastic with a great view. Great place to relax at the end of the day and start the day at. The room was spacious Japanese tatami. The dinner featured many Akita beef dishes. Love the views during drive to the hotel.

    Surroundings Desperately Need Care

When we first arrived, we were sure that we were not at the right place. The name of the hotel was only written in Japanese characters, which we cannot read, the front yard was sorely neglected, and there was nobody there to greet us. After asking at the aquarium close by, we realized that this building was our hotel. When we arrived a second time, the greeting was very friendly, a young man immediately took our luggage and showed us our rooms, each with a spectacular view of the bay. Service during the whole stay was extremely good, except for one surprising exception. The rice of the day was a mixture of white rice with oysters, which we did not like. We asked for plain white rice, which was brought to us instantaneously. To our surprise, however, the lady who brought the rice explained that we would have to pay 100 yen each for a bowl of rice. The food was only passable, better the first day than on the second. We got the impression that the cook did not want to serve the same dishes to us as the day before. His idea was to serve us some kind of Western fusion with lots of catsup and other strange, not originally Japanese dishes. The sunsets are out of this world!
