    Traditional Japanese

We wanted to try something different outside the normal locations people visit when going to japan, it was a few hours in a bus from the closest train station but in my opinion well worth the extra effort. The whole family enjoyed the traditional Japanese rooms and food, including breakfast, the preset pre paid dinner was exceptional value, fresh abalone cooked on coal in front of you, good sashimi and various other seafood. The private onsen on our balcony was amazing with spectacular views, the staff were fantastic especially the one appointed to making sure we had everything we needed (sorry forgot her name) you choose a hotel like this for the views and relaxation it offers 9/10 for me

Paying More for Larger Room with Best View was Worth It

When making reservation almost a year in advance, we chose a bigger room with the best view of the rocks. That was worth it as we enjoyed the view during the sunset, at night and in the morning. The outdoor onsens, both public and private, are also with good views. Service on checking in was very professional and friendly. The English of the young lady was good. She gave very clear and helpful information, including the extra free samplings in the early morning and evening. Dinner was very good, as well as the breakfast. We came by bus from Shimoda and the Sehama bus stop was only about 100 m from the hotel, downhill. We left by bus to Shuzenji train station. This is the highlight ryokan stay for us on this trip.

    Delightful old style hospitality

A wonderfully located ryokan. The staff are outstanding and the food generous and flavoursome. Whilst an older property the rooms are delightful with beautiful sunset views. The outside onsen is terrific, especially if there is a sea running.

    Amazing view

Staying here for me was all about the view from the bedroom, and it was really worth it. I didn't tire of looking out my window the whole stay. The meals have a lot of seafood and my husband doesn't eat seafood, so we requested a vegetarian meal in advance and it was absolutely delicious. We booked one of the private onsens but it was not warm at all, and quite run down. Service was generally good.

    OVERPRICED!!!

photos of the rooms are very misleading. Sure, if you are lucky enough to have a high floor room you might have a decent view but if you unlucky checking in late you will receive one of the rooms at the 1st floor where you will hardly see anything, especially considering the fact that the windows were really filthy. Bucked of ice $5, one coffee $5. This is a ryokan and we actually live in Japan so we are experts and my wife is Japanese but this is a really old and not a clean place. almost $400 a night. Forget it. Bedding (futons were wet for humidity and old) Breakfast does not even have coffee, as I said we had to pay extra. The only good thing was the included dinner. Delicious. By the way, our room did not even have phone signal. We wanted to make a reservation for dinner to a local restaurant and we ask the front desk how to call from the room phone....you cannot.
