Very honest mixed reviewHave just returned from the Turihan after visiting for many years usually twice a year. I know Turkey has struggled this year as a tourist destination however standards have really slipped at this hotel. I'll get the negatives out the way first. Lack of staff - the whole hotel seems to be run on 4 staff. The person who was the grounds man was also the man who took me too my room, carried a safe into the room which was the just put on a shelf and could easily have been carried out again ( I'll get to the cost of it in a moment). There were 3 others who looked after the bar, the beach and the shop. The beach was filthy with cigarette ends and empty bottles left for day. All other areas of the beach away from the Turihan looked to be cleaned daily. Rooms- Our room cleaner didn't come for 3 days, not too much of problem re sheets and towels but too leave the bin next to the toilet Without emptying and having to beg for loo rolls is unacceptable. Breakfast- usually consists of the usual Turkish fayre which is fine as we are in Turkey. As we have past years to compare this too again it was unacceptable to not even provide fresh fruit and yogurt a staple of any Turkish breakfast.one dish of olives looked like it had been there for at least a month if not longer. Toaster almost impossible to toast with and more times than not there was a lack of cups and bread. These were slowly topped up again by the groundsman. Coffee machine was a gamble to see if it worked some mornings. Beach bar- closed early so couldn't get a night cap. Pool- had green slime all along one side of the pool floor. A hand written notice was on the wall of the unmanned reception said "I am in restaurant" and that was it. No one seemed to be running the place until it came to check out day. This is when we accosted by a man who claimed to be the owner asking for money for the use of a useless safe ( see above note, this could easily have been carried out). In the past there was a little sign behind reception saying exactly how much safe hire was. No such sign this year so they can literally charge what then want to anyone who'll pay it. A lot of the repeat guests who we see year after year all said they would not be returning. As for us we will see if things improve for next year. Good points. Hotel is ideally situated for restaurants, taxis and the dolmus stops at the top of the road. Short walk to bat street.

Slippery slopeStayed at Turihan a few times now. Always been clean with friendly attentive staff. Times have changed. It looked like family members were forming a skeleton staff. All the usual people who knew their job were gone. The guy on reception who I think was the owner was allegedly working in the restaurant. This involved sitting watching the world go by. The lad running the bar was missing most of the time and spent most of the night next door at the Mels chatting. The other lad who would normally stroll the beach and take drink orders was invisible. This resulted in the beach being unattended and left filthy. In previous years the beds were stacked at night and the beach raked clean in the morning. This year the beds were probably put down in May and haven't moved since. There was an alleged manager who spent the 10 days I was there lying on a sun bed poolside. The pool that developed an ever growing algae daily. I felt for the girl in the shop who never had a minute and the cleaners. There were two cleaners to clean the whole complex. Our room never got touched for 3 days. Not their fault, just not enough staff. I managed to hijack them and get toilet rolls and clean towels while the 'manager' smiled lying on his sunbed. There was a chef who took pride in admiring his breakfast effort. Boiled eggs, bread, salad and if you were lucky a working coffee machine. There was also one other guy who seems to be the hotel dogsbody. I watched as one morning he cleaned the pool by throwing a bucket of chemicals in one end. He then emptied the pool side ashtrays into a bin by literally using his hand. Moments later he was walking across the dining room holding half a dozen loaves to his chest to top up the breakfast bar. He was easy to spot after wearing the same yellow shirt and red shorts all the time I was there. To sum up. Poor uninterested staff. Dirty beach. Unmanned bar ( a bottle of Efes was 8 lira in the shop, 12 at the bar. If you could get served at the bar, they went and got a bottle from the shop! ) Laughable breakfast. Clean rooms (just a shortage of towels) Great location Bearable noise ( it is Gumbet after all ) Gumbet is the same as ever. Restaurants ranging from classy to kebab stand. Shops from tacky to designer jewellery. Bars from tranquil to crazy. We'll return but probably stay in Bitez and taxi into Gumbet at night. I take no pleasure in posting a poor review. We've been going to the Turihan for years and have made many friends both local and tourists. What is worrying is that this year they have cut back because of the drop in tourist trade. There will be no investment over the winter because there isn't any money. So next year will be more of the same or worse. The Turihan is at the top of a slippery slope.

Turihan hotel now changed to the SoyAk hotelI have written several reviews about this hotel and most of them have been positive, however, this review is different. I booked to stay at the Turihan last November, received my documents and off I went only to find on arrival that the hotel has been leased to the chain SoyAk hotels. The staff looked at us blankly as we tried to check in until the manager turned up - he was the only person in the hotel that spoke English. Our rooms weren't ready, so we were on different floors for the first night. The hotel has also gone all inclusive for the Turkish market, meaning that this normally quiet and predominantly English occupied hotel was now a very loud, children running a muck, Turkish hotel. This old and now very tired hotel also had major plumbing problems and we were subjected to drilling from early morning as well as Turkish music blasted from the pool side stereo at 9am. My friend had a small amount of money stolen from the room, we reported it and the manager wanted us to decide what he should do and was so stressed by the situation that he went to the bar and started drinking! The 2nd incident happened when an uneven shower tray cracked - anyone who has stayed at the Turihan will know that all the bathrooms are dated and all the showers leak. I was then threatened by the police if I didn't pay immediately! The rep for the hotel was good for nothing and after a few calls to the uk and negotiations with the hotel, we agreed a price. To conclude, DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! This hotel had a place in my heart but no longer and unfortunately has been ruined by the new management.

horrendous hotel and staff and facilitiesI booked this hotel 3 days before I arrived. On arrival the staff had no record of my booking,no room ready and despite my obvious distress as I was travelling solo, appeared nonchalant and after sitting alone for over 1 hour the only offer made to me was that I paid again ,albeit a discounted rate.for another week ! . the food was barely edible and I spent the whole week dining at another local Hotel The Green House nearby. throughout my stay the staff were rude and avoided me. The showers were filthy and the sink hanging off the wall. For my first time in Turkey I was extremely disappointed but would certainly return but NOT TO THIS HOTEL .
