    Decent hotel, good breakfast

The breakfast here was good and well priced (10 euro). We called in advance to make sure the linen was 100% cotton (and were assured it was but on arrival saw everything was poly cotton blend :-( The night time guy was very nice and let us take many towels to use as linen. Parking is in a nearby parking garage at an extra cost (but just 5 euro).

Dreadful experience, most appalling sight in a hotel ever

We booked this hotel for a one-night stay after reading quite some good reviews. Our own experience turned out to be dreadful, though. Instead of getting a good nights sleep, we entered into an odyssey of five (5!) different rooms with an unbelievably appalling surprise on the way. Upon our arrival at 10.30pm, a rather grumpy night porter dressed in a kind of jogging suit did the check-in. The first impression was not particularly friendly or welcoming, but all we wanted at that moment was a quiet room and a decent bed to spend the night in. The room we were given was a single room on the second floor, facing the front of the hotel (even though I had specifically asked for a quiet room during the reservation process), not prepared for guest use, with the pillow and sheets all over the place. We went down again, waited for another check-in process to be completed and were then assigned room number 2 on the fifth floor. This time, it was a double room, but with an inside temperature of about 30°C. We tried cooling it down for almost two hours, but the air conditioning did not seem to work. Even opening the window had little to no effect. Sleeping in this oven was clearly no option, so we contacted the night porter again. When we entered room number 3, it was again a front-facing single room. At that point, it became pretty obvious that the night porter had no clue at all about what was going on in his hotel and which rooms had which features. It also became clear that, despite a day temperature of almost 30°C in humid conditions, the air conditioning seemed to have been either defunct or switched off in the whole hotel (probably in an attempt to save money in times of low occupancy due to corona). As a result, there were only two types of rooms: either with 25°C or 30°C, depending on their position in the building. Since it was clear that we couldnt sleep in a single room, we had to get another room. Room number 4 seemed okay at first sight (double bed, only about 25°C). After having settled in, I switched on the lights in the bathroom - and was shocked. Please take a look at the pictures attached, they speak louder than words. Until today, we have no idea what might have caused this appalling disaster, but it certainly was the most disgusting sight we ever encountered in any hotel worldwide (and we travel a lot). In a state of shock and disbelief, we called the night porter to come and see this for himself. At that moment, it was already 1.30am in the night, we were totally exhausted and still struggling to find an acceptable room to sleep in. I told the night porter at that point that we wanted our money back, and he told us that this would be sorted out the next morning with the regular receptionist. We were then given our fifth room, next door. It was still pretty hot, so we had to take the duvets out of the sheets, but at least we finally had a room with a bed that could fit two persons, with only 25 instead of 30°C and a bathroom that did not look like some horrible crime had just been committed. It was well after 2am when we finally managed to go to bed, three and a half hours after our check-in. Naturally, the next day was ruined because of the lack of sleep - we had quite a busy schedule, so this night really took its toll. Upon check-out, the female receptionist was friendly and apologized for what we had to go through. When asked for a refund, she said that due to the fact that we had booked a prepaid rate via Expedia, she could not give us an immediate cash refund, but that she would ask her superiors. After a couple of minutes, she reappeared and told us that there was nothing she could do at the moment, but promised that we would be contacted by the hotel management the following week. We indeed received an email from the deputy GM two days later. He apologized profoundly, but instead of offering a solution for a refund or at least a free night (considering that we live in Amsterdam, the probability of us making use of such an offer would have been minimal anyway), the only thing he offered was a mere 50% deduction on a future stay. Adding insult to injury is a strange behaviour for a hotel that boasts about its excellent customer service. We had a ridiculous multi-hour odyssey through FIVE different rooms, we had to face the most appalling bathroom ever, we slept in our own sweat for only a couple of hours. They ruined not only the night but also the next day, so common decency would have been to compensate us adequately. The only take-away point from their reaction is that the hotel management values easy money higher than customer satisfaction. I do not doubt the validity of the more positive reviews on this hotel - as I said before, they lured us into the mistake of booking this hotel. I also do not doubt that this ordeal was caused by an unfortunate chain of events and problems. However, you can only judge from your own experience, and it doesnt really help that others might have had a better stay while youre finding yourself in the midst of a disaster. The experience during our actual stay was just as unacceptable as their managements reaction afterwards. They had the chance to make up for this, they chose not to. So from us, a clear word of warning to everyone considering a reservation in this hotel. You might be fine, but in case they screw things up, they screw them up badly - and you wont receive a fair compensation.

Staff are the best thing about this hotel

I had heard from a work colleague that this hotel was unbearably hot when he stayed last November, but having now experienced a 4 night stay in July, I can confirm that it is a problem. 5 of us stayed for 4 nights and all of us had problems with the heat in the rooms and air conditioning that did not work. The problem was mentioned to the reception staff and they said they could try and move us, but as we all had the same issue, we didn't believe moving would help. I would have given a lower rating if it wasn't for the staff we encountered. It is worth noting we had in the past we had eaten in the hotel bar when staying at another hotel and the food was very good. Unfortunately, this was closed during our stay due to COVID.
