fit the billNothing luxurious about this hotel. But, it fit the bill considering we needed this location to be close to some friends. Missed amenities that I like at my hotels, but we didn't spend much time in our room anyway. Didn't enjoy trying to sleep through the party that was celebrating in the parking lot below our room all night long. Blaring music, yelling and bottles breaking. Made it tough to get over jet-lag. But, the fabulous breakfast in the morning calmed my nerves. So did the very nice hotel staff. We did, however, rely on our friend to do the translating for us. The Czech Republic is hands down my favorite country ever visited. The scenery is that of fairy tales. One of my favorite memories is watching the sunset from the bell tower at the Landstejn castle. This is one of the oldest castles in the Czech Republic, if not the oldest, so it is in ruins. But, still very fascinating. The caste-keeper gives a great, informative tour. The restaraunt at the foot of the hill in front of the castle was great; enjoyed our dinner outdoors. Beautiful landscape. Can't wait to return.

a bit run-down and no facilitiesThe first impression of the three star Tuchlovice hotel is that its past its sell-buy date. It looks tired and run-down. It sits near the centre of a small village a few metres back from a busy road, and a 30 minute taxi ride from Pragues Ruzyn airport. The hotel staff are very helpful, speak passable English, its just a pity that the rooms and the hotel dont share the staffs affability. Our room was tiny, Im sure it was a single room with an extra bed put in. A television Czech speaking stations only - sitting on a unit, a small wardrobe and a little standard lamp were the furnishings. After complaining we got another room. This was slightly bigger but just as sparsely furnished as our first room. Housekeeping was good. The room was cleanish, a bit threadbare, but with fresh towels and maid service daily. Breakfast buffet was cold meats, one spiced, cheese, bread, and cornflakes. Coffee is from a machine which also gives hot water for making tea. There was no tea making facilities in the room. In fact there were no facilities in the room thats advertised on the hotel website; no safe, iron, hairdryer, and no sat TV or minibar. Theres no bars of soap; only liquid soap from a wall-mounted dispenser. And the hotel minibus to Prague? Just a myth. During our stay the restaurant and hotel bar was not open in the evening, it was all in darkness so for evening meals its either Prague or the boisterous, smoky café-bar next door that have menus in English, and very good meals. At the time of our stay it was more like a hostel. There were young lads two to a room in the next two rooms on the floor we were on, and young males and females in the other two rooms. With paper-thin walls it turned out to be noisy. The parties normally went on till after 11pm. Then after midnight the café-bar next door decants its patrons. Would we stay at the Tuchlovice again? No! How it got three stars is a mystery. The Tuchlovice hotel is about an hours bus ride from Prague metro station Hradcanska, which is about a 10 minute walk away from the bus terminal. The bus fare, paid to the driver when you board, is from 33 to 55Kc, depending on the route the bus takes, per-person, one way. The last bus from Prague to Tuchlovice is 10pm weekdays. The hotel reception is happy to print bus timetables and fares for guests.
