Onsen of a different styleIt may be my ignorance, but this onsen is the first one that I have come across that is very relaxed and family oriented. The business model is quite different as well. Of the high end onsens, the extra sales is mostly through dining (drinks) and may be some gift purchasing, but this hotel has a welcome drinks area where there are free table tennis mixed with carnival games (shooting and fishing etc) which costed only 200 yens per game. The free dessert area has coin operated massages chairs and of course, the usual dining extras and gift shop. Despite the lower price tag, the service is still of high quality. All rooms are facing east and has full ocean view of sun rise. For each night, you be given an hour of private hot spring and unlimited use of the public hot spring. Thus hotel will definitely be on my plan should I be visiting the area again.

Beautiful relaxing hotel!!Me and my boyfriend stayed here 1 night to celebrate our first year anniversary together. We hired out a car as the location is a tad remote to get too in terms of public transport, but the hotel offers free parking. When we arrived we were greeted by staff who took us into reception to check in. The staff were really nice and friendly. I was given a special patterned yukata as we hired an room with private onsen in. We were shown to our room and the staff member explained the onsens they had to offer etc. The room was huge! It felt more like a small apartment with three rooms divided, and a small balcony were the private onsen was located! It was extremely clean and we got a beautiful view of the sea. There was a fridge with lots of complimentary snacks and drinks from beer and chu hi to fruit etc. There are 6 public onsens and 1 foot bath. 4 you had to make reservations and was only allowed in for 50 mins. Then there was segregated men and womens so no reservations were necessary. A very basic one overlooking the sea and the other within the hotel. The womens onsen in the hotel was very basic only an outdoor and indoor, but my boyfriend said the mens had a sauna and lots of different types of baths. I believe they may rotate them everyday. We had dinner and breakfast included with our booking. We could go down at 5:30pm to get dinner. It was very delicious and lots to eat. All you can eat on tempura. There is one catch you have to pay for drinks with your meal on checkout. Our waiter was lovely! We were always seen to quickly and we was even given a special little bit of cake at the end as we made the hotel aware we were celebrating our anniversary (they took a photo and put it on a card as we checked out next day). They put the futons beds while your at dinner they were probably the most comfortable Ive slept on in terms of futons. We were even give some sake when we returned to the room. Breakfast was also very delicious. The meal was very big and all you can eat on fish such as mackerel which was very tasty. They had some ping pong tables you could play and an yokocho that had lots of traditional games and get a free cup of beer between 4-6pm I think and some really sweet non alcoholic sake too. We didnt venture out or explore the area as we were mainly there to use the onsens but it was lovely ! Would definitely return here!

Pleasant seaside onsen ryokanGetting to the ryokan from Yokohama was easy - just needed to change a couple of trains and the place was just a short walk from its nearest train station, though theyve a courtesy bus too. I walked because its just by the ocean and so it was a lovely breezy walk along the coast. The onsen was quite well-kept - my room was clean and in good shape, as were the baths. The highlight wouldve been the 50-minute private onsen bath that everyone gets per night - I got a jet spa tub that was open air and facing the ocean. The food was good too - mostly set dishes except free flow tempura with dinner and free flow grilled fish with breakfast. The tempura, which is fried with your order, was amazing, especially the prawn ones, which were so fresh Im sure the prawns were just caught that morning.

Great service, location, onset and food. Perfect vacation!Chose this hotel because of excellent review, price and location. If you missed the last hotel shuttle ( like us) from Izu-Atagawa station then you can still walk to hotel (< 10 min and down hill) with luggage from Hakkawa station though there are few stairs when exit the station. In addition, the outdoor seaside Hakkawa Onsen is right next to the hotel (free for hotel guests), plus the 40 min private onsen from hotel so you get to enjoy the best of onsen without additional cost (but may not be available due to overwhelmed demand). We booked the Japanese style sea view room without realizing there was no private bath (which my daughter insisted to have). After we requested to exchange to a room with private bath, they upgraded us to a two-room suite with a private bath (it was lucky they still have room with bath). However, I must say the 3rd floor Japanese style sea view room is perfect for myself. It had superb sea view and you can hear the wave ponding. The front desk did their best to communicate in English. We were able to exchange the room, booked shuttle and private onset and ordered fried sea food without issue. The menu is in Japanese but we can google translate. Remember to book the shuttle the night before departure. Highly recommended!
