AmazingWe stayed here on the last night of our recent trip, in early November. The awesome bits: It is very private and nestled in the forest; it is out of the most touristy parts of Nara but in walkable distance; it is on the walking trail to Mt Wakasayama (sp?); the set up is brilliant with little watercourses etc and it is very authentic - like something from a movie or anime; the staff are lovely; the food is amazing - up there with the best I've had; the onsen bath is nice; the room is huge with a nice bathroom and great outlook into the forest. The not so awesome bits: you cant check in until 4PM which is a bit late - 3 would be better; you couldnt open the windows in our room - probably because of insects; I dont think that wandering about is encouraged probably to protect others' privacy - so when you are there it is pretty much in your room (with no opening windows) or in the bath, which is reserved; typically of Japanese establishments there is no wine on offer, so drinks choices for non beer drinkers are limited. A very amazing place, I'd stay again.

Traditional ryokan within Mount Kasuga Primeval ForestThere's something quite special about being surrounded by nature, on top of the mountain and watching deers as you have your breakfast. A small traditional ryokan that has great service but is not quite luxurious. The rooms are a little worn, though exceptionally clean and the view more than makes up for it. Privacy is valued here, you have your meals in a private room and you can book one of the two private onsens. We hardly saw anyone else, but who we did see staying there were mainly locals. The service was familiar, though mostly in Japanese and a little English, but we could communicate all right. Dinner was kaiseki, and was good though not memorable. We had a nice bottle of Nara sake with our meal. We had a bit of a hard time looking for this place, the GPS in the car and Google Maps lead us in circles around the forest. Asking the locals did the trick.

Amazing experience! We really wanted to try a ryokan and after some searching we came across Tsukihitei. The pictures looked nice and gave us an authentic japanese vibe. When we arrived our first thought was: what a beautiful place and building. De rooms were exactly what you would expect for a ryokan. After a amazing 10-course meal, they prepared a bath for us to relax. While we were dining, the staff pulled out our futons for the night. In de morning they came and got us for breakfast and, again while we were eating, they removed the futons. We only stayed one night, but it was one of the most unforgettable experiences ever!

Unforgettable experience in NaraWhen you arrive in touristic Nara, you go up to Kasuga Taisha to continue the path through the woods. And there it is... a hidden gem! Lost in the middle of nature, small cottages linked by a path traced in the forest and outside blend into the forest... It is a unique, sublime, almost unreal place.... The room has large windows overlooking nature. It is the most peacful place we stayed in Japan No wifi, no TV... just you and the nature The private bathroom was a great experience. The food was exceptional! We would like to thank the staff who was really nice and helpful. They made our stay even more magical. We were feeling like home.
