    Calido departamento

Would not want to repeat this experience

I wish Id read more reviews on this place otherwise Id never have stayed here last week. I arrived at around 2:45pm as check in was at 3pm. There wasnt any answer at the door and the sign displayed on the door stated to phone the number or go to the address across the road. After no answer on the phone, and waiting for 15 minutes, I went to the address across the road. I knocked on the door and was greeted by Pierre and Maria, who told me that the owner, Sherrin, had popped out and they didnt know how long shed be. Pierre rang her and luckily she came not long after, meanwhile I was seated with a drink and some crisps. I did find this an inconvenience as I did have plans and Id lost over 30 minutes so far. I was asked to pay which I did, and organised when I was having breakfast the next day and what I would like to eat. I was then led to a room in the kitchen which was where I would be staying, and not in the building across the road as advertised. Id already had a bad vibe about the place as it seemed tenants were living there and I was invading someones house. I was also told the dining room was where breakfast was served. When shown my room, I instantly took a dislike to it. First of all, it was a narrow entry to get into the room and there was a spice cupboard, fridge and microwave in the doorway. The bathroom floor was extremely dirty and Sherrin said shed get it sorted and stock the soap and toiletries but this never happened. Everything seemed a bit rundown, there were things taped up on the wall, the bathroom window was propped up by the bath plug to keep it open as there was no handle, and I caught numerous moths in the room. Wires were also trailing and there werent curtains to block the light coming in. It was also really noisy, I could hear everything going on in the kitchen so felt like I had to tiptoe around as theyd be able to hear me. The bed was extremely squeaky as well. The most worrying part was when I walked in to go to my room on the first evening and some guy was in the kitchen and thought I was someone else. Then Id heard him talking to Sherrin when I was in my room and she wanted to come in and get something until he reminded her that I was in there. I was so relieved it had a deadlock on the door. There was no TV in the room so I couldnt even distract myself with that. The bathroom appeared to have a spa bath but I had no idea of how to use it, but the shower was ok. I also kept getting accosted by the dog, who was adorable, but had the habit of sleeping in front of my door. Breakfast the next day was just an odd experience. Sitting around a big dining table in this creepy Victorian over-decorated room, I was given a blueberry pancake with fruit and scrambled eggs which was nice but the hygiene practices in the kitchen were dubious, with flies everywhere. I did think breakfast was on the small side though and I was only offered one glass of juice. Sherrin seems to be on the scatty side as she asked me numerous times what I was doing for the day, if Id paid and when I was leaving. She also kept interrogating guests on political views which did make some people feel uncomfortable. Maria on the other hand, was lovely and kindly lent me her iPhone charger plug for the duration of my stay as Id forgotten my Canadian power adaptor. Overall, I thought the whole experience was uncomfortable and the room way overpriced for what it was. Its one of the most expensive places Ive stayed at and one of the worst. It might be only a 15 minute walk from the centre and attractions but its worth paying that little bit extra to stay somewhere else.

    Lost its appeal

We stayed there a couple of years ago and enjoyed the historical aspects of the building. Unfortunately, the owner has been unable to keep up with the maintenance required for the building and still provide the level of service and cleanliness most travelers have come to expect. Another reviewer has already mentioned Pierre. His role in the establishment is not totally clear, but it seems to be to offend guests. People we met at breakfast were rather shocked by his rudeness and unwelcome opinionated comments, and confided to us that they would not be returning to stay at the Manor again as long as he was there. We feel the same way. Check-in protocol is confusing at best, as the owner/breakfast room is in a house across the street from the Manor. Directions are not clear, and the last time we tried to check in there was nobody at all available on site to let us in or process us. Several phone calls later we learned that someone might be back in half an hour or so to help, but that we couldn't stay in the room we had booked and would be placed somewhere else. We cancelled and sought out alternate lodging.

Great Curators, easy to find, Very Victorian!

We loved this B&B. The place was very clean, they were doing some remodeling but that's to be expected with a 100 year old home. Two story, I would ask for an upstairs unit if you are sensitive to noise. Our room was upstairs and had a balcony that over looked the street. Private bath, and walk-in closet area with a small refer in the room. comfortable bed, and the breakfast was made to order. Pierre was the breakfast host and was very friendly. Breakfast included eggs any style, nice bacon, and a waffle with fresh berries(recommended) or toast. Close to town an easy 20 minute walk, and close to neighborhood coffee shops, restaruants, and grocery about a 7 minute walk. Owner Sharrin was very friendly and helpful for area suggestions. Parking was free and on the street. No problem finding spots when we were there. We would stay here again for sure!

    Great B & B

My wife and I stayed three nights at this B & B. We stayed in the Balcony Suite. This B & B had two locations, the one we stayed in and another directly across the street. The home was built in the early 1900's. The common areas, dinning, living room were so decorated it was a treat just to take them all in. Our suite was very spacious, very clean with a big old poster bed. The balcony was a great place to sit out and have a glass of wine after a very busy day of sightseeing. The hosts were extremely friendly and accomodating expecially Pierre who served breakfast each morning. Speaking of breakfast, it was fantastic, a lot of choices, and very tasty. The location was great, very quiet, yet walking distance to a great little pub were we had dinner one night. Also very close when driving to the downtown and water front areas. I would highly recommend this B & B, great value.
