Wish we'd stayed longer! After 5 nights in a resort room in Cairns city, it felt like going home when we checked into Castaways. Very laid back beach feel, it suited our family perfectly. We had a two bedroom apartment, plenty of room, everything we could need, beautiful views into the tropical garden from our balcony and even though the place was booked out we barely saw anyone else. The apartment we were in was pretty old but that's not something we care about and it made it feel a bit more relaxing having a toddler in there! 5 minute walk to the beach and local tavern where they had great meals and service and we had a hire car so it was a perfect spot to explore further along the coast. Hosts were lovely and helpful when we checked in. We had a 2year old and I'm pregnant so getting all our stuff up two flights of stairs was a bit tricky but it was nice to be outside instead of in a lift. Overall we were so happy with our stay and I would happily stay again, my only regret is we didn't stay longer.

Very dirty-domestic violence- stay elsewhereIve back packed around the globe and this is def #1 of the dirtiest places I've stayed. Mum booked this on good reviews. We had my 2.5 year-old son and were advised grounds were enclosed - They weren't. The shower drain was So clogged up with past people's hair I struggled to remove with a spare toothbrush of ours so it didn't over flow into the equally dirty drain in the bathroom/Laundry. We had to request it was cleaned again. Clumps of dust n dirt under the bed lamps cupboards. Dish detergents watertered down by a tenth of real form. A bandaid on the pool edge Sat there for 4 days. Then there was the permanent residents who had domestics for half a day with abuse and foul language being heard in the pool from their apartment top floor.multiple visitors reported when I asked if we should call police reception advised they are owners she would talk to them and they should know better. We did meet some lovely fellow travellers by pool as sitting on our verandah was too dangerous as road was right there and the lawn c9vered in walks by poo as well as the drive. Cheap and nasty

Ageing but comfortableThis is a comfortable hotel/services apartments. Rooms are clean, air conditioned and beds are comfortable . There are three pools and parking is available. The staff/ managers were friendly and helpful and made the stay more welcome, whilst the location is perfect, just a short walk from the esplanade and restaraunts Some of the decor and furniture could certainly do with an update but this is minor compared to the rest of the facilities

Value for moneyThis has been our only place to stay for over 20 years. This is our final year as they are no longer doing holiday lets. Units are always clean & tidy & serviced once a week. Central to the beach which us easy walking distance & across the road from the tavern. There is a bus stop also across the road that will take you into cairns CBD or to the other beaches in the area. Plenty of restaurants in the immediate area. There are 3 pools in the complex.

More of motel than a hotel.Very old and tired, furniture seen better days, went to its very overpriced restaurant the food was what I would call pub crub. Got up in the night for a glass of water turned on the light to find cockroaches on the beach. Room smells damp I could go on and on but you get the picture.
