Our visitAs always, my husband and I book our holidays last minute and a 10 night trip to the Apollon was no exception. The pictures on the Jet2 website showed a pretty, clean, yet slightly dated interior. Typically Greek. We had reasonable expectations! We did our usual research - reviewing Trip Advisor, going on Google maps to make sure there werent any noisy nightclubs nearby! All seemed ok. We arrived late at night and was checked in by a member of the bar staff. There were some guests enjoying the lovely evening by the pool, underneath the beautiful flowering trees. Bliss! Our room was clean, a bit basic, nice big balcony, small kitchenette (has the essentials) and solid mattress!! Bathroom was a little small but functional all the same. We were left a little welcome package (like everyone else) but used the milk only and returned the rest the next morning. The window set-up was good with internal shutters that allowed air to circulate at night so you could leave windows and patio doors open. The mega downside at night was the noisy farm animals! Im sure they never slept - Im quite a heavy sleeper but I cant say I got a huge amount of sleep at night time. I dont think it was helped by us staying on the far side of the building. Obviously not the fault of the apartments but be aware-maybe take ear plugs! Pool area was good - clean and big enough for plenty of sun loungers. We didnt purchase food from the bar but did buy the odd ice-cream. We hired a car using the help of the reception staff. Definitely worth a trip to visit a few places - there are plenty of places to see within an hours drive. Locally, you can walk to the town centre within 10 mins. We also did the beach walk to Rethmyno a couple of times - approx an hour each way. Loved this but hard work on the sand! Loved the bigger town - nice cobbled streets and plenty of sites to see, especially the castle. Overall, an OK place to stay - good as a base to explore the island. Clean and friendly with some nice local places to explore.

Return visitCant believe its nearly a month and a half since we were chilling at the Apollon Great hotel in our favourite place Rethymnon I was inspired to write another review since reading other reviews of the hotel and resort Namely another one that were staying at the same time No music around the pool thank you Only pebble beaches ? I think not Expensive to dine out ? I think not Unimpressed with the transfer time Great You wont be returning to our favourite area and island Having visited most of the Greek islands Including Rhodes You can keep Faliraki one of the worst man made false resorts in the med You are welcome to it and all its cheap fat food outlets

Nice pool, basic roomsExtra charge for air-con, 6 a day, luckily we werent there at the height of Summer and the sun was not on our room. Towels not changed regularly enough and basic rooms with single beds. No toaster or microwave, only a kettle and ring hobs. Washing up and toiletry essentials not provided. No fan in the bathroom. I would only recommend to those on a budget, it was a nice enough place to stay with a good pool area and nice restaurants near by. It is in no way high quality or luxury. The route to the beach and main strip felt a bit dodgy, especially at night with no lighting.

Cant wait to returnVisited for 7 nights last minute due to thomas cook collapse..wasn't sure what to expect but pleasantly surprised and cannot wait to return!! Staff were always willing to help! Reception and bar staff went out their way to help with anything. My partner left his phone in a taxi staff did everything to help and managed to contact company and the driver returned the phone!! We were bed and breakfast..continental breakfast..enough choice each day. Bar snacks we cooked fresh to order. Beach and town 10 minute walk...rethymnon town roughly 10/15 min in taxi. 10euro. Walk roughly 1hour...well worth the trip. Rooms basis but spotless and they leave a welcome pack (milk, bread, cheese, orange juice, water) came in very useful when arriving at 11.30pm. Cost is 7euros but u can return if u dont want it. Pool and bar area spotless, cleaned every morning. Always a sunbed free, sun around the pool all day. We had a late flight home. 22 euros to keep the room until 6pm pick up. Onsite shop and also a corner store 2 mins walk down the road. Lidl is also 10 min walk down the road. Brilliant holiday. Will return next year!!

A tiny bit of local Crete...Apollon is located in an area called Platanes, which is about 4 km outside of Rethimno or Rethymnon, yeah the two spellings are really confusing for this Dutchman! Also Platanes not to be confused with Platanias, which is the other side of Chania. Anyway, back to Apollon. It's located in the midst of a residential area, so be prepared for some noise, cockerels, dogs barking and children, including adults screaming. Yeah I mean screaming! Having said all that Apollon was not that busy, because the end of the summer 2019 season. In fact it was due to close 2 days after we left on 19 October. There were not many guests, which means it was actually quiet most of the time, except for some children (taken out to school or on different holiday terms?) Apollon is a little bit of heaven in between the local residential mayhem. Sometimes at night some very noisy mopeds. Still Apollon was beautifully clean, very impressive indeed. Rooms very comfortable, nice cold fridge and we didn't need any air conditioning, because the temperature (due to the time of year) was just perfect. A pleasant 17- 20C during the night and a very nice 24 - 26C during the day, it was perfect. Apollon has a small bar, where you can get drinks, ice creams and snacks. Very nice indeed. Pool is perfect, just the right size and great for cooling off if the sun gets too much. We're not big sun bathers and there's one side of the pool where the bushes that grow around the pool give a very nice shade across some of the sun beds. Relaxing, reading and the odd swim was the order of the day. We did do some trips (3), which we booked in the village centre (Platanes) and they were great too. There are plenty of travel booths/shops where you can check out the trips. There are a couple of restaurants very close by, Taverna Stratos and Pagonas. We ate at both and the food was great. But the atmosphere was definitely the best at Pagonas, as it is run and hosted by Pagona herself. Just look on TripAdvisor for the excellent reviews. Other then that the main village is about a 10 minute walk away and there you will find plenty of choice of restaurants. All of them very high quality and tasty. The big question is would we go back? The answer is maybe. Greece is such a big place and we would like to explore other places, but if we wanted to know what we would get, we could just hop on the plane for a last minute holiday, out of season and go there and then yes we would. You'd have everything you need at Apollon and then the rest is up to you.
