Excellent local hotel in CreteTree of Life Art Hotel is a family run business with a husband and wife team looking after the small hotel with 12 rooms. We chose a room facing the back of the building on the ground floor looking onto the pool. In hindsight this is the side of the building you want to be on as the road in front of the hotel is quite busy most of the night. Angelickisi family has transformed the back of the hotel into a unique area with a pool and bar area which is where a homemade breakfast is provided each morning and most guests hang around to exchange their experiences. Alexis looks after this area in the afternoons and evenings and is an excellent bar tender and wealth of local information. If you want to learn about the local attractions your host and hostess are an encyclopedia of information. With our room on the lower floor at the facing this hideaway was very convenient as it removes you from the closeness of the street. The hotel has an indoor outdooor common area in the centre of the rooms and a gift shop as well attached to the area. Ample private parking is available at the back of the property. Breakfast is the highlight of each day with generous portions of everything that is yummy including fresh squeezed orange juice. Rooms are generous in size and contain two single beds together for couples which is unusual for North American travelers who are used to a queen or king sized bed. The bathroom is small but very functional and well appointed with high quality toiletries. A mini kitchen is available in the room which has a fridge and hot plate which may not be the best use of the space. Having the bar fridge was definitely a plus but the rest of the kitchen was not used by us on our visit. Finally on the outside of the room was a balcony area which is perfect for an evening glass of wine.

The best place to stay in when visiting western CreteWe loved everything about this place. The loveliest, most friendly and caring owners Angeliki and Achilles. Perfect location to stay in to visit all must see spots in western Crete (Balos, Falasarna, Elafonissi, Chania). Every day Angeliki was preparing delicious kalitsounia pies with local cheese or herbs for breakfast, some sweet pies, and was greeting us with a freshly squeezed orange juice and Greek yoghurt. She has recommended us the best places to go, beautiful beaches and restaurants with great local food. When we got sunburnt shes cut some aloe from her garden for us. She was just the best. The hotel is lovely, with nice garden and pool. You can park your car in the backyard. We already want to go back!
