Close to the main JR station - and (unexpectedly) right next to a historic siteWithin an easy walk of JR Utsunomiya station. Note that there's another Toyoko property elsewhere in the city centre ("Toyoko Inn Tobu Utsunomiya-eki Nishi-guchi") - that one's close to Tbu-Utsunomiya Station (run by a different railway company) and is NOT the property being reviewed here. The subject of this review is convenient specifically for the JR network, especially the Thoku Shinkansen line. Typical Toyoko Inn rooms: small, clean, well-maintained. One of just a couple of Toyoko Inns I've seen so far with a separate breakfast area - unlike in most other branches (where an area contiguous with the lobby serves that purpose every morning) this one is in a separate room, with doors that are kept closed until the start of service, which means one can't stake out a table or start early with coffee. Queue early at peak breakfast time to ensure that you'll get a seat. Interestingly, the hotel's next-door neighbour is an architectural and historic gem: the former Shinohara family residence, once owned by a merchant family whose factory (which was part of the broader compound) was right about where the Toyoko Inn itself now stands. Makes for an easy start (or end) to a day of sightseeing in the city, as it's just a few steps away.

Close to the JR station, and makes for a good base to explore NikkoAs with all Toyoko Inns, you pretty much know exactly what you're getting - a clean (if small by Western standards) room, good facilities, fast WiFi and a hearty breakfast in the morning. There are a good number of restaurants within easy walking distance, and a large-ish shopping centre between the hotel and the station. Given the lack of (what I consider reasonable) hotels at Nikko, this one makes a good base for exploring the local area - particularly the Tosho-Gu shrine at Nikko.

Convenient and reasonably pricedI've stayed here twice before golf tournaments nearby, once with a large discount for people playing in the tournament. In any case it is inexpensive, convenient to get to by car or train and clean. The twin room we had was small, but adequate for two friends only wanting somewhere to get a good night's rest. A breakfast buffet was included which had croissants and coffee as well as Japanese options. My one gripe was with reception. The receptionist acted totally confused by my admittedly less than perfect Japanese (which has functioned perfectly well in hotel situations for many years) and then told my fully fluent friend that the hotel's high rise parking could not accommodate his estate car and we would have to pay for a nearby private space. However, on asking the parking attendant directly, it turned out to be no problem.

Small but neatThe Hotel is a perfect location just 5 min from JR station. It is small twin room but have all the essentials and with B/F included at that price nothing much to complaint. B/F is a bit lake of assortment but again price is the issue. I love the Hotel and is very hard o get Twin room.

Close to JR StationWe have stayed in this hotel by early Nov and opined that the location of this hotel was very near to the JR Station. Furthermore, the complimentary breakfast provided here started from 6.30 am in the morning and this would definitely facilitate tourists to catch up early trains to Nikko.
