    Convenient Japanese business hotel

This hotel is just down the street from the north entrance to the JR station in Matsue. It is surrounded by hundreds of bars, restaurants and pubs for those interested in those amusements. The hotel is a well run business hotel, meaning it has the standard small rooms, plastic bathrooms and very hard mattresses. Breakfast is rather spare and is served right in the entrance lobby. The menu is aimed at the Japanese palate. Westerners will have to make do with coffee and juice (if it does not run out). The staff is extremely friendly and willing to help with just about any problem. This is a nice hotel but I cannot really recommend coming here rather than the other hotels in the area. If I were to return to Matsue I would probably try one of the other places, perhaps they would more geared to handle western tourists. One recommendation for anyone in Matsue, take the bus just down the street to Yuushien garden (twenty five minute ride) one of the finest Japanese gardens in Japan.

    Comfortable and Reasonable

Everytime I visit Matsue, I stay at this hotel. The room price is good and break fast ois free. All the rooms of Toyoko Inn are same style. The room maight not be wide for foreigners, but enought for Japanese businessman. The hotel locates near JR Matsue station, 2-3 min walk. The staff is very helpful. You should visit Matsue castel.

Comfortable budget hotel for solo traveler.

I quite often stay at Toyoko Inns around Japan because for around Y5000 you can get a room to yourself with bath, toilet, TV, and small refrigerator. The Matsue TI is no different. These hotels are mainly geared toward Japanese businessmen, but if you're not interested in hanging around in a hotel for entertainment, they are a comfortable place to spend the night. This one is about a block down from the train station on the opposite side of the street. There is a 7-11 across the street for food and drink, and a Lawson back toward the station if you just want an obento meal or to stock your mini-fridge. A fairly good walk to the east is an Aeon Mall (on the south side of the train tracks) and even farther east is a Joyfull. About the same distance to the west near Lake Shinji is a Gusto. I mention these because I like to get the drink bar after a long day of walking. The room I had was different from all other TI rooms in which I've stayed. It was a bit square and the space beside the bed was not wide enough to get my suitcase down to roll it under. I had to put it under the desk after pulling the stool out. There were also no hangers on the walls. All other TIs have had some hangers on a wall rack, but this place had none. I had to hang my clothes from the stop on the back of the door. There was also a second locked door that had a stop so apparently, you could have two adjoining rooms. The WiFi in the room worked fine and was fast enough to handle VOIP calls to the US. I use an Ooma app and it worked great and cost nothing. The TV had an HDMI port on the back that handled the output HDMI from my tablet no problem so I was able to use the TV as a screen. The room has the standard heat pump type air conditioner, which is a cooler in the summer and a heater in the winter. It kept the room warm in January although the temperature was not below freezing. There are also a couple of notebook PCs in the lobby that you can use. I only used them to transfer files between a flash drive and tablet as the USB port on my tablet didn't like flash drives, but it was easy enough to do. They are set up to delete anything saved on the local drives and there might be other service restrictions but I didn't use the PCs except for copying files. The breakfast was the typical Japanese TI breakfast with onigiri and some other items which changed each day. There was also coffee and juice from a machine. I have no problem with these breakfasts and have always used them over getting a breakfast somewhere else. They are definitely better than toast and jam but that is also an option if you want it. Although it was conveniently located to the JR train station, the Matsue Ichibata Line which runs to Izumo and Izumo Taisha (with a transfer) was across the river and a good walk west at Matsue Shinjiko Onsen on the shore of the lake. The castle was also a good walk away, so it wasn't near the main sights or the local transport on the north side of the lake. You can also get to Taisha by taking a JR train to Izumo and transferring there to the Ichibata line, though. If I'm in the area, I might stay over in Taisha for a change, but if I stay in Matsue, I'll check into the TI again.
