Decent hotel for a "budget" option

So this was our budget hotel on our honeymoon. We walked in thinking that it was going to be like a Motel 6. Surprisingly it was a really nice experience. It was definietly more like a chain hotel. The room and bathroom were small; the bed was a bit uncomfortable, but honestly was still nicer than most US hotel chains. It was clean and the staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast was included and wasn't bad. Location was decent. The area was easier to navigate once we realized where everything was.

Loved the place, would come back.

Great value for money. Staff does not speak english perfectly, but good enough to answer your questions.Coin laundry is very useful. The hotel is easy to miss because the 206 bus from Kyoto station stops on a place from which you cannot see the hotel. Just go around the drug store and look right. You will see "Village hotel" sign. Your hotel is just next to it. Breakfast was not that tasty. Onigiri, potato salad, some bread. However, it is a pleasant bonus to the low price.

    Functional and economical

When a group of 5 of us planned to visit Kyoto for the magnificent autumn colours in the spring the challenge was to find a hotel thats easily accessible to public transport, clean and suitable for the budget of other members of the group. And we found all that in Toyoko Inn Kyoto Shijo-Omiya! Luckily one of us is a member of the Toyoko Inn Group and could book 6 months in advance. Even then we just managed to book the last 3 rooms for mid November back in May 2016! The hotel was about 500 metres from the north exit of Omiya station. The room was not big but clean and functional. The price was really reasonable. The room rate included breakfast with Japanese rice and soup, but luckily for me, they also had coffee and raisin rolls (there were sliced bread for toast too). They also offered a discount of 600 yens to join their eco-plan of not having the room cleaned everyday, but fresh towels were provided and hung in a bag on the door handle outside. For a hotel on a busy street the rooms were surprisingly quiet. It a no-frill hotel that we could crashed out in bed after a busy sight-seeing day, and there was so much to see to stay in! Because of the convenient location the hotel seemed to be well patronised by business people too.

Convenient, good price value and chain worth while to consider....

Not far from a railway that leads you to some major attractions this Toyoko-inn is quite well situated. The entrance is a bit far back with some parked cars next to the entrance way. Looks a bit odd...For the rest... its the well known Japanese Hotel chain with its own reputation and situated at hundreds of locations in japan. It's well priced affordable rooms are well suited for the traveler who just needs a roof, bed and shower. Actually there is more... AC, television, a little fridge a desk and a table and some chairs. The bathroom is tiny but nevertheless its all there. Washlet toilet and a small bathtub with a shower. Don't expect a gorgeous view since most rooms look out on blind walls or other less attractive spots. The bathroom is a kind of plastic prefab built in system and are the same at all the Toyoko-inn's I stayed at over the years ( at least 20) The breakfast is very simple.... Onigiri, some breads pickles coffee and some odd looking juices... hardly a real breakfast but good enough to start your day. If you are an early bird and your partner isn't the plastic bathroom makes a lot of noise, shower, toilet etc. it all resonates a lot... so you or your night owl partner is most likely to wake up.....
