Typical Tokoyo Inn: Impeccably clean at a great price.Having stayed at a number of Toyoko Inn hotels now over the last 6 years, several things stand out for me, and keep me coming back. The rooms are impeccably clean and well maintained. The booking process is very simple via the Toyoko Inn website, even for non-Japanese speakers. The hotels are more often than not very conveniently located within minutes of train stations. The value for money is hard to beat. This Toyoko Inn was no exception. Finding the hotel is simple. Exit Kawasaki station via the East exit, and walk down Shiyakusho Street for around 4 minutes, and you can't miss the hotel on your right hand side. The location of the hotel is excellent, with no shortage of eating and shopping within 10 minutes walk. Back towards the train station on the same side of Shiyakusho Street is the Kawasaki shopping arcade, which is a busy shopping street closed to vehiclular traffic. Beneath Kawasaki station is a massive maze of color coded underground shopping mall tunnels, some of which contain a massive selection of fantastic restaurants. If that isn't enough shopping for you, on the Western side of Kawasaki station you have Lazona plaza. Check in, as with all Toyoko Inn's was very simple. The front desk staff spoke a moderate amount of English, and more than enough to allow me to check-in using my poor, broken Japanese language skills. The room was typical Tokoyo, and is identical to every other Toyoko I've ever stayed in, right down to the color of the bedspread. That said, the rooms are more than comfortable if all you're planning is sleep. The rooms come with a fridge (which never seems to be switched on when you arrive, so it takes time to cool down), a bathroom with toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, conditioner. A small-ish flat-screen tv, kettle/hotplate, phone, lamp, desk with wired internet, a dehumidifer, and a couple of pairs of 100yen shop slippers. If you're looking for decadence and space, look elsewhere. If, like me you just need a room to store bags and sleep in, and would rather spend your money on other things while on holiday, these rooms are a great option. Evey Toyoko Inn comes with a complimentary breakfast. Toyoko Inn breakfasts are prepared on-site by the staff, and in my experience can be a bit of a lottery. Some hotels have a fantastic selection of breakfast options, some hotels have a very limited selection. Unfortunately this Toyoko was in the latter category. It was ok, but certainly lacking compared to other Toyoko's that I've stayed in. Breakfast at Toyoko Inn usually consists of scores of businessmen looking at their newspapers or phones, doing their best not to make eye contact with anyone, while everyone does their best to be quiet and look as solemn as possible, and hurriedly eat their breakfast efficiently, before running off to catch their taxi or train for a hard day at the office. A couple of Aussie tourists in cargo pants and casual jackets with 3 young kids couldn't look more out of place in this scenario of we'd tried. The Kawasaki breakfasts on offer consisted largely of boiled rice, a variety of flavoured onigiri (rice balls), a selection of pickled things, coffee, tea and juice. Compared to other Toyoko Inn's which serve salads, eggs, sausages and cold meats, the selection was a little disappointing. But considering it's included in the already low room cost, you can't really complain. As I've pointed out in other Toyoko Inn reviews, there are a few Toyoko Inn tips which you should be aware of: *Toyoko Inn membership costs 1500yen per person * If you aren't a Toyoko Inn member, check-in time is 4pm, and they strictly abide by this. Luggage can be left in the corner of lobby, and it is protected by a foolproof space-aged security system consisting of a net..with bells on it..draped over the top of the bags. If it was anywhere other than Japan this would be a concern. * Toyoko Inn members get their check-in time bought forward to 3pm. * If you choose an "eco plan" you get a small discount, but your room doesn't get cleaned. As a result however, you can come and go throughout the day as you please. * If you don't choose an "eco plan" you have to leave your room during the day, and aren't permitted to re-enter it until your check-in time (3pm members, 4pm non members). * Toyoko Inn members get a photo ID card which streamlines check-in considerably, and members get a 5% discount on 6 days a week, and a 20% discount on Sunday. The discount on a single Sunday in a twin room usually saves more than the cost of the membership in just one night's stay. * Children can share a bed with an adult at no charge, but they don't get any extra pillows or ameneties (unless you get a nice conceirge like we did :-D) * Toyoko Inn has an English website allowing bookings for non-members 3 months in advance, and member bookings 6 months in advance. All in all, Toyoko Inn's offer fantastic value, ultra convenience and are invariably spotless. This particular Toyoko Inn was no exception. It is located within minutes walking distance from Kawasaki station, and is very close to a huge number of shopping and dining options.

Very Good LocationBooked this hotel based on a trip advisor member's advice to someone traveling on a budget. The rooms are small (space efficient) but spotlessly clean, including the nooks and crannies in the bathroom. There is no space for the hair dryer in the bathroom, so they put it in the room next to the TV. Two pair of slippers, which are washed daily, are provided in the room as it is obviously very un-Japanese to walk barefoot in the room. Environment friendly, soap, shampoo, and lotion are provided via dispensers in the shower. The healthy Japanese breakfast is meat-free, hence no unwanted cholesterol. But most of all, the rate is hard to beat. And if staying at least 2 nights, one can sign up for the Eco plan whereby they don't have to clean your room and change beddings after the first night for a discount of 300 yen. Compare this with American hotels that encourage guests to reuse towels and no linen change after the first night but don't give you a break. On the negative side, the bidet in our bathroom (Room 717) was not working. Hotel is some 3 minutes walk from both the JR Kawasaki Station and the Keikyu Line station. If you have a wheeled luggage you can just wheel it to the hotel. Post Office is some 2 blocks away. If arriving late and hungry, there are 2 nearby 7-11's where you can buy bento. Under the Kawasaki station is a shopping mall with lots of eateries.

Value for money business hotel, in the heart of happening cityFree wifi/ wired internet, tea maker in the room. 10 mins from JR Kawasaki Station. All restaurants and 24/7 stores including Indian within 5 mins walk. Some staff knows English. Japanese breakfast included in the rates. Rooms are clean but medium sized. A big shopping area is nearby. Cons ------ Checkin not before 4:00pm. Incase you have a membership card checkin is 3:00pm. And this rule is strictly enforced. Some rooms are in basement too where phones may not work. Rooms sizes are medium sized.

Good value for moneyNice hotel, closed to the kawasaki station. The room is comfortable with everything you need : wifi, fridge and so on. The staff speaks english and you can eat your japaneese "bento" is the lobby with micro-wave oven. Ask for a room in the high floor because the street is noisy.
