    Quite frankly... very odd

The hotel is just very odd and dated, I find no manned reception weird in a main town hotel. Car park was difficult to find on arrival and the room small. The bathroom needs some TLC and shower took an age to heat up. The selection of random toiletries that look like previous guests have left are only out shone by Protein bars as snacks and out of date milk for the teas and coffees. The curtains also need changing as light flooded in at 4.30 as soon as the sun was up. We wont be back Im afraid.

    The Hotel that just isnt.

Its a real shame that this ideally located, nicely appointed hotel just doesnt please. I arrived at 2.45 pm on a Sunday afternoon, to find the hotel locked up. I understand that check in time is 4.00 pm ( a bit cheeky that I think) and understand totally if the room is not available before that time. However, a guest should be able to get in at least, and drop off bags surely? So I went away and came back much later. In the. Eat time I contacted the Manageress who said it would take her 30 mins to get to reception. What made the whole experience worse was that when I did return at 9.15 pm the reception was still not manned. I was fobbed off with an excuse from a member of the restaurant staff that the lady was on her way as she was preparing the room. What utter nonsense. Preparing the room at 9.00 pm Sunday evening? It was a lie. It seems to me that the owners arent particularly interested in running the place as a hotel and that guests are a bit of an inconvenience for them. I have stayed there 4 times now and dont think I shall go back again.

    Friendly Hotel, Homely feel

This hotel isnt a chain, its got a local feel about it and not a five star experience, but I didnt book a five star hotel!! Both of the ladies on reception when I checked in and out were more than helpful and very friendly. The room was perfectly adequate. The Thai restaurant (sub let) on the ground floor was likewise very hospitable and served good food. Would I stay here again ? Yes. But remember it is an honest run independent business and not a corporate hotel chain. Thanks for your hospitality

    Avoid like the plague

Not much to say really apart from dont book this hotel. The room constantly smelt of the Thai Restaurant downstairs, the room was far too hot and there was no hot water in the bathroom sink. The shower was tiny and took ages to heat up. There was never anyone on reception to speak to, you had to call a mobile number to speak to a member of staff. When we complained they tried to say that the issues were due to it being a historic building!! Well Buckingham Palace is a historic building but I bet the Queen doesnt have to wait 20 mins for the hot water to come through for her shower! Anyway, we wont be returning!!!

    Full of charm and character.

I have recently stayed for two months in various chain hotels so can genuinely say that character and charm really count (Town House room 4 especially). Friendly reception, wonderful management (Rosemary) and a stay for four weeks that made missing home bearable. Sure not the most modern in terms of bathrooms, but facilities such as fridges, super comfy beds, cosy rooms, treats and breakfast catered for in the room and the ambiance and character that is so often lost in contemporary functional hotels. Perfectly situated in the heart of a Wymondham with complimentary car parking at the rear. I genuinely will miss this hotel and the welcome received and the adjacent SathuDee Thai restaurant next door. Sometimes the little extras and the charm of a venue take the advantage. The Town House hotel certainly does that. Highly recommended and certainly characterful.
