Clean but very old with foul toilet smell

The rooms were clean, but upon walking in we notice a very odd smell. Upon further research we opened the door to the toilet room and found the culprit. It was coming from the toilet and smelled like one of those public restrooms. The breakfast served in the morning wasn't any better. Only good thing about the stay was the courteous staff.

    Nice view...... but

Fronting right on the Lake, our room had a great view. In April there was still plenty of snow on the mtns (one way into the lake came on a road where the snow was higher than the bus). The hotel is an onsen, and Yukata robes provided in rooms; in addition a tv (no English channel), water heater, frig, plus a chair and couch in smallish rooms - beds a bit too firm for us. Wifi was free but only available in lobby. Windows seemed inadequate for really cold weather, but room warm enough. Dinner was very nice - Japanese style with good variety; breakfast buffet had both Japanese and western foods. While the room was generally quiet, around 5 am birds were making a racket by the windows. While our room (facing lake) was non-smoking, those across hall were smoking, and the smell permeated the halls.

    Wonderful Stay

Had the pleasure of spending a week at this wonderful resort during a business trip. The accommodations are modest but the view is amazing!! Also, the surrounding area is just beautiful. Could never really tell there was anything else within miles. The food was outstanding and the service was even more outstanding!! On the first night, our server, who speaks zero English, saw me struggling with chopsticks. She brought me a big spoon to help. From then on, there was a spoon at my place setting regardless of who my server was. Overall, I can't say enough about this place!!

    Needs a facelift

Yes the hotel has lovely views and is right on the lake. Food is not bad. However like too many of the hotels used by All Japan Tours this place is rundown. Its clean but has all the character of a small town Holiday Inn. Once you walk the path around the lake you are done. Little to do. Did not use Onsen. OK for 1 night.

Beetles, bed bugs, and bad attitude

My skin is still crawling....I just returned to Aomori after staying one night at Towadako Lake View Hotel. To be honest , most things about the hotel were fine (albeit old and rundown). Nice location, decent food, Onsen on-site. But the entire experience was ruined when I woke up in the middle of the night to a beetle crawling on my chest. After turning on the lights, I found 4 more in the room, crawling on the floor, wall, and dresser. I lifted the mattress and there were a few smaller bugs underneath. I didnt sleep much after that.....thankfully I was getting up in a few hours to go on a tour of the nearby stream. When I got into the hallway, there were more of the bugs dead on the carpet.?! When I got back from my tour, I took the front desk clerk up to see all the dead bugs. He said theyd check the rooms. First I said I didnt want to pay for the room, but realised, with the language barrier, they would probably just charge my credit card anyways. So I asked for a discounted rate. The clerk asked his manager and the manager came out and said no, I have to pay the full rate. He said I should have asked to change rooms. Ya right.. at 3am! I let him know Ill be sharing my experience through reviews with pictures, and his response was thats ok. So, if you are ok with bad hospitality and the potential of taking bed bugs back to your home, I highly recommend this hotel.
