wonderful stay - going back next year!

We spent 4 days in the top apartment in October. Very peaceful (the campsite was very quiet at the time). Breath-taking views. Easy access to beautiful clean beach with amazing snorkelling directly below the tower. The appartment itself was very comfortable but the roof terrace was the real selling point with panoramic views on 3 sides overlooking the mountains and the bay. Stairs are steep but adds to the fun.Would be careful with young children as the walls were not too high. The area is fantastic with incredible walks and beautiful bays completely away from the tourist madness of some of the other parts of the Amalfi. Found management and staff very friendly. Amazing experience all round - will definitely be going back.

... Watching out for the Saracens

Overlooking a fantastic bay we slept in this 15th century tower with great sea views imbued in history.. Very special and devoid of mass tourism, it's perfect for a relaxing break, hospitality from Michele and Teresa at the restaurant made it a memorable experience. We will be back wit family and friends..

The most wonderful apartment in the most wonderful campsite in the most wonderful part of the world!

We first visited Camping Villagio Nettuno two years ago when we back-packed Italy for a month and on our first visit we stopped in a tent on the camp site. We got engaged on their beach and ever since then always vowed to come back with some actual money in our back pockets so we could fully experience the area. In our email correspondence it was clear the owners remembered us and were incredibly friendly and helpful. To arrive at the site you can either hire a private taxi (return trip from Naples airport in an air conditioned mercedes was £125) or take the bus from Sorrento. We did the bus last time and took the taxi this time, either are fine). We checked in and was shown to the apartment. We stopped in the penthouse apartment which had it's own terrace over looking the coast with some wonderful views. Other reviews have complained about the number of stairs. There are a lot of stairs but I'm almost positive they would carry up your luggage if you asked them to. We just got on with it (burned off all that wine!). The top apartment is possibly not suited to young children as there are no safety barriers on the terrace so you would have to keep an eye out. That being said it was built in something like the 14th century so there's only so many changes you can make before it looses it's character. The apartment itself was wonderfully clean with a full kitchen, wonderfully sized double room, dining table and fully equipped bathroom. It was a little piece of heaven, we loved every minute of it there. Sunbathing on the terrace then going swimming to cool off was wonderful. Also, as it was our honeymoon, the owners left us a free bottle of prosecco in the room! The sea is beautiful and while the beach is pebbles rather than sand it is still a great place to chill out. If you want a sand beach there is a really quaint 20 minute walk to a small beautiful beach called Recommone. Go right down the beach to where all the restaurants are and look for stone steps that are inbetween two restaurants, it doesn't look like you can walk up them but you can. You just follow the path as it climbs and travels around the coast and drops you off at the beach. We had an excursion booked through the site to Capri. Well planned, they walk you down to the jetty where they have local skippers who take you in their boats. Takes about an hour and although he was Italian he made lots of effort to show us all the sites you wouldn't see by land. It was a really lovely experience. The restaurant on site is well priced with plenty of good options. You can also eat in the bar area or order pizzas to take away. The food is rustic and tasty. Drinks are relatively cheap, especially the home-brewed wine and the shop has a range of products. It may be worth while doing a shop in Sorrento for fresh meats etc before you arrive on site. Apart from the stunning views and apartments etc the staff are a complete asset to the site. They are incredibly friendly and helpful, they are completely wonderful. We enjoyed their company and the effort they made with us, it was really great. On leaving the owner apologised that he couldn't say bye to us as he was very busy but gave us two free gifts from the gift shop so that we could remember the site. All in all it is a truly wonderful site with amazing staff and the apartment itself was spectacular. We are most definitely going to return, probably with the extended family. If you get the chance to go, you definitely should! Beautiful.

The view is the only thing I'll miss!

Let me start by saying its on the Amalfi Coast and it's a tower, I was expecting steps! However upon arrival we were guided into a jammed parking space at the bottom of the tower, then told we had to go back to reception to check in. Reception is across the road after several flights of stairs and across a very busy road. Having two young children (5&2) it might have been better to guide us there first! Add that to the very tight steep steps up the tower and I now have thighs like the Hulk! I'd read previous reviews about how close caravans and tents etc were to the tower but I couldn't believe how tightly packed in they were when I saw it with my own eyes! It was quite an amusing spectacle watching the staff trying getting campers in and out. To be honest if I'd have been in a tent or motorhome id have turned straight round and driven off quickly! Back to the apartment, (top floor) whilst the terrace has been updated since previous reviews with a more permanent shade made out of wood and bamboo, inside still needs work. Just small things light paint peeling off the walls, broken lights etc.. For the cost I would expect more. Not once in our weeks stay was the room cleaned or towels/bedding changed. We also couldn't get rid of the ants which seemed to have made a home behind the oven hood. It seemed to be a problem for the whole site as every tent/caravan had a ring of ant killer around it. There is no private beach, there is a steep set of steps leading to a rocky outcrop that u can jump off. The beach itself can be accessed from the campsite, the first 10m stretch is free public beach the rest is all paid for (16 a day for 2 loungers and a brolly) It was August and the free beach was packed you couldn't even walk though it to get to the paid bit and instead had to navigate the busy road into town instead. Once at the paid part you could easily find a lounger if you didn't mind be four plus rows back from the water and squeezed in like a sardine. (The first rows been booked months in advance) you will also need Aqua shoes as this is a rocky beach. Having said that the kids loved the beach and the sea was lovely and warm. The positives: the views! I could have sat all day on the terrace watching boats pass by! Some of the worlds largest mega yachts would moor up! The sunrise was beautiful. The town/marina was pretty and had some lovely waterside restaurants. Having said that I'm sure you could stay elsewhere and find that same view, I certainly would in future.

    Raise the drawbridge!

Raise the drawbridge, I am never leaving! This place is basic but amazing. A medieval tower with a balcony overlooking the water. Kids loved it, we loved it and although its not exactly budget it is affordable...something that in a few years time will no doubt change!
