Beautiful and Peaceful Place To Stay

We stayed here as a family and it was our first experience at a Japanese Ryokan. Our room/suite was very large with its own private onsen, an upstairs bedroom/living room, and a lower floor seating area with a central table. The room was definitely old Japan as I would imagine it but with modern amenities. It was very clean and comfortable. It was finished mostly in natural dark woods. We were warmly greeted by the hosts and taken to a very nice reception area where we were served welcome drinks. Next, we were shown our room and introduced to the art of wearing Japanese robes (which were later required for dinner). Dinner was quite the affair for us and was a very traditional multi-course Japanese meal. We donned our robes and took the short walk to the very comfortable dining room. To be honest, it was scary and we couldn't recognize most of the things brought to the table (apart from little tiny squids). Our host realized this group of struggling Westerners were not having a great meal experience and brought out cooked steak and chicken (off the menu and not by request). Amazing service!! The grounds are very peaceful and pleasing. There is a bakery just a short walk up the trail that served delicious pastries and coffee. The bakery is adjacent to a large granite counter where you sit with your feet soaking in a hot onsen bath while enjoying your food and a beautiful view. It was a truly marvelous experience for all of us. One of us tried the public onsen and found it to be a wonderful and sublime experience. We also tried the private onsen in our room which we couldn't get hot enough until we used the shower head to help fill the tub (it disperses onsen water too). It was cold outside and this may have affected the water trickling from the natural stone faucet into the tub. Still, it worked out great and was a rejuvenating experience. This was an experience all of us will remember for a very long time and highly recommend it to others.

A little needs to be done

This is an ancient, very aristocratic place. Recently renewed, Tofuya is incredibly beautiful and comfortable. Also located at a beautiful place. Theres a little room for improvement, though. In a country known for the best food in the world, Tofuya lags a tiny bit. Also, it is most often the case that at a Ryokan you can eat dinner and breakfast in your room: that adds to the unique experience. Not here though. And thats pity, but other than that, Tofuya is perfect!

    A great Onsen Ryokan experience

We stayed at Tofuya during our honeymoon, and for my wife's birthday. Congratulations to all the staff of Tofuya, you made it a wonderful and special experience! All about this ryokan is superb: the rooms, the open air and inside baths, the traditional Kaiseki food, and all the people working in the hotel. My wife said the massage in the spa was the best in her life, and totally recommends having one. See you soon Tofuya!

    wow wow wow

We experienced one night at the superb Tofuya resort & loved every minute of our stay. It is very traditional & the experience is uniquely special. Our room was a traditional lay out with lovely beds facing the river & large bathroom with luxury amenities, the beautiful balcony onsen & a mini bottle of bubbles to welcome us. We also experienced the ladies onsen & both the family onsen spaces which were also beautifully appointed & relaxing. The dinner at the restaurant was superb & the hotel was diligent in managing an allergy. Breakfast was equally as special with multiple beautiful courses. On arrival, we had everything explained & were offered our choice of Yukuta for our stay. We loved wandering the grounds, exploring the gardens & enjoying dining in our traditional dress. The entire stay was sublime & we hope to return again in the future.

    Lovely Suite and Delicious Meals

My husband and I stayed here on August 16th and stayed in a two-story suite. The layout was very modern but with a wonderful private-patio Hinoki hot tub and a very modern indoor shower/bath/toilet area leading to that patio, with a reclining lounge chair on it. 130 looks out on a very green area with the scenery of a small white water stream to look upon from the second-floor patio. It is totally private. Two televisions (upstairs in the MB) and (downstairs) places over a small, heated, log-decorated fire place. If you have food allergies, inform them in advance. They were very consciousness about meeting my needs. Both indoor and outdoor baths are available throughout the large grounds. Be prepared to walk a short distance to reach them from your room. Umbrellas were located inside our room. Two small refrigerators were located in our unit. The first-floor one had a nice variety of complimentary beverages stocked in it.
