  Lovely stay, would stay again

  The rooms are clean, staff are very friendly and attentive, breakfast was fabulous - Lee the waiter in particular was lovely, couldnt do enough for us and is a credit to the business! The pool and leisure facilities are well run (you have to book a 1 hour slot to use the pool 24 hours in advance, so make sure you book ahead before you arrive to secure a place!) COVID measures well implemented, great location! The hotel is a bit tired but perfectly clean and comfortable!

  Perfect location

  The Toorak is just 8 mins walk from the station, the same from the beach and a bit further from the town centre - pleasant walks in all directions. The staff were all excellent and keen to please. Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and well cooked. Our room was huge and had a modern bathroom with lots of instant hot water. It was a little jaded with stained carpeting, broken window sashes and a lumpy mattress but we spent so little time in it, it didnt matter too much. Thankyou Toorak for helping us celebrate our 23rd anniversary!

  Not worth the extra money to stay here.

  We paid £80 a night B&B off TravelZoo, even then it was too much. We had a room upgrade (couldn't tell). Half the staff were helpful, the rest had a veneer of helpfulness but with a stoic determination to make sure nothing happens only seen in bureaucracies. Pool was nice and big. The gym, which you had to pay an extra £3 was good but you were limited to 45 minutes or so. Entertainment was about 40 minutes. Breakfast was really good, and it's the food that pulled the score up. Evening meal at £20 for three courses was OK, nothing special. To finish off, Bournemouth seems a better deal than Torquay. Same type of hotels, with better beaches, places to visit and more restaurants, but the hotels are £40/night cheaper.

  Anniversary trip

  Between lockdowns, we booked a trip to Torquay to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and chose the Toorak. We were welcomed and treated all the time we were there with great courtesy, friendliness and warmth. From the reception to the restaurants and bars, we were made to feel as if we were special guests. We even received a card and chocolates for our Anniversary, quite an unexpected surprise! Our room was spacious, warm and well equipped. The facilities were very good, we swam, enjoyed a sauna and had the weather been kinder, we would have explored the lovely gardens. Such a happy way to celebrate.

  Be careful with the false advertising

  Booked this hotel as a 2 night stay with Travelzoo. that was my first mistake, their review of the hotel could not have been any more far off. Plus I would say they do no research what they promote as they would have found what i found and not the marketing rubbish on their site. complained and got £23 voucher . wow thanks . Check in was uneventful, even during covid, reception is a hole in the wall, not grand not exciting and its a corridor with no social distancing. Speaking if which, the hotels COVID safe was tape down the middle of the floor, no hand sanitizer stations at all throughout and all the doors needed to be touched to open. none open or electronic. Our room was meant to be an upgraded Riviera Room with a sea view, well the tree blocked that, see my pics. Photo's speak a thousand words. Furniture is dated, old, smells and ripped, bed was awful, slept about 4 hours in the first night. DIDNT STAY THE SECOND NIGHT, WE CHECKED OUT!! ITS THAT BAD. Brekkie was awful, all microwaved and the coffee was like tar. facilities would be good if you could use, 50 people to the pool at one time, i don't think so in covid times. filled with shouting kids too. We had a free bottle of prosecco on arrival, that was nice, but no fridge and it was warm. put on the window sill to cool down. Torquay was lovely, but we checked out a night early and complained to travel zoo and they sent me £25 voucher off something else, not the cost of 1 night., will not use travel zoo again as clearly no research been done. check the pics for more of an idea. Be careful hen choosing this.
