  Perfect for the smart Western traveler

  I wanted to stay somewhere authentic, chic and comfortable to experience China on my own after a lux conference. I am a smart female traveler, but I don't speak any Chinese so I needed a great home base with a helpful staff. After reading hundreds of reviews online, I decided I this was the place and the wonderful manager "Karren" would be just what I needed. After a week at a Wyndham Resort in the center of town, I was terrified when I was dropped off in a seemingly random suburb and then realized Karren was going to be out for a few days. Needless to say, everyone on staff there is warm and beyond helpful. They used their phones to translate, called friends to answer questions and even drove me to the bank when they were worried it would be closed before I could walk there. The subway is an easy walk, even in the cold, so getting to the city center was a breeze. The room was very comfortable and clean. If you don't like amazing and authentic industrial renovations (and art) then this isn't for you. However, if you like art, history and want to see the future of young, hip Chinese suburbs on the brink of greatness, check out the Banpo International Art Zone and stay at the Time Tunnel.

  This is a great out-of-the-way place to use as a "home" base

  We just got back from Xi'an and we're still talking about what an adventure it was! Where I rest my head is very important to me because let's face it, exploring new places can be a lot of work. ;) The Time Tunnel Designer Hotel was perfect for our needs. We arrived at midnight and their staff actually greeted us at the car to carry up our bags. They got us settled into a beautiful room right away where we could rest and get ready for the week. The room itself was very spacious with kind of cool industrial decor (it was an old textile factory and instead of trying to wipe everything out, they embraced it whole heartedly)...I won't lie...the exposed bathroom took a little getting used to...Luckily, my partner and I have been together for 10 years so we were ok but if you're traveling with a romantic partner and you still want a little mystery, I might pick another place... The restaurant was great...we both have very sensitive stomachs and we found that our stomachs were fine after eating there...so much, after long days of sightseeing, we would usually end up there... Everyone was so warm and friendly and engaging, even though they didn't speak English... The only drawback is it is a ways from the City Centre...we personally loved it because it was nice and quiet and the International Art District was a wonderful, funky place to explore...also, the Metro is a 5 minute walk away so you can get around...(know your Chinese Characters though...it would be very easy to get completely lost!) I would highly recommend this hotel!

  wonderfully quirky

  This is a fun out of the way hotel that would be unusual in any city. It's located in an artists colony on the eastern edge of the city. It's about a ten minute walk from the metro and when you enter the campus where the hotel is located you do feel as if you have traveled through both time and space. It's set up like a mall but it is filled with artists, exhibits and other quirky features which are hard to explain. The hotel itself is a pleasant little place tucked inside this colony. It is clean well appointed and well managed. The rooms are ample and the decorations are all in the spirit of time travel. That is to say, you feel as if you have gone back to the 50's. I should say that while the theme is the 1950's the actual facilities are modern with all the conveniences one would expect from a modern facility, The hotel and its surroundings had character. It was a nice alternative to the typical cookie cutter locations.

  Charming Hotel

  It was a surprising hotel, not close to the center, but excellent one, and the surroundings were great, places to see and restaurants to go, everything at walking distances, we tried a very Chinese Hot Pot near by, and we loved it!

  Very nice room, great service, delicious food

  The staff here were very kind. The room was very spacious and stylish. The restaurant was delicious and very reasonable. The receptionist came to meet us, as our taxi could not find the exact location of the hotel. He arranged a good driver for us to go see the terracotta army (just 45 minutes by car) and transfer us to the airport. They also graciously held on to our luggage after we had checked out while we visited the sights and kindly let us hang out for a few hours while we were waiting to go the airport. All in all, this has been the most welcoming hotel in China for us. If i were to come back, i would try to arrange a transfer from the station / airport with the hotel as regular taxi service is often not a very pleasant experience.
