Caldas Novas TripThe actual name of the place I stayed was Hotel Thermas diRoma and not the title listed. Also, the picture shown is not the Hotel Thermas diRoma as it is not a high rise hotel as shown. You can get some good info about this place at www.caldasnovas.com.br. You can also see an overhead of the property in Google Earth. Just type in Thermas diRoma Caldas Novas in the search and you will see it. As for my stay, Caldas Novas is billed as the largest geothermal area in the world. Each hotel is like a mini waterpark with lots of hot pools. Thermas diRoma is no exception. The staff at the hotel was excellent. They were most hospitable and would do everything they could for you. One night my friend and I wanted to have a glass of wine together. I took the wine bottle to the restaurant to have them open it and the manager opened it for us and gave us some wine glasses as well. I thought this was very nice of him. The restaurant was good and had a good buffet. The rate paid for breakfast and lunch however if you wanted to trade the lunch for dinner you could. The food definitely filled me up. One night we ate at the place where they had the singer and it was good as well. The room was not quite as good. While the bed was comfortable the only product the hotel provided was soap. It had nothing else. It had no shampoo, lotion or anything else. We had to buy our own shampoo in town. I don't remember there being any stationery either. I thought this was kind of cheap of the hotel considering they own so many places. Also, the TV was an old CRT screen TV as was very small. I have provided a picture of it. They should modernize it and get new flat screen TV's but that has not been done yet. The pools were great but the jacuzzi was too hot. They should be able to control the temps better. Two days a week they close the pools for cleaning. On those days you go across the street to the diRoma Aqua Park which is a large waterpark and very nice. The hotel has a lot of potential and with some minor fixes it can be a really great place. I have supplied some pics. I hope you this helpful for anyone considering a trip to Caldas Novas.

Could be betterThe room is huge and shower is great. But the hotel sounds old and not very well preserved. Restaurants are far to downtown and we had to take dizer at the hotel. Internet doesnt work very well sometimes.

Not good for children1. The hotel is very big and very old, which, in itself, it is not a problem, except that the room I was in there was no cold water running on the tap, which leaked all the time (what a waste of precious water). I complained about it 4 times, and they only came to look at it on day 4 of my stay. And they wanted me to be in the room while they fixed it, saying they were not authorized to be in the room if I am not here. So basically I pay USD180 per day for me and my 3 year old to watch this guy fix a tap - I don't think so! 2. The complex is nice, lots of pools and two big(ish) water slides. It has a nice kiddies area. But... the kiddies pool was cold. Except for one morning, when the pool was nice and warm, the rest of the time it was really cold, which is a no-no for children. Similarly, the water on the water slides was cold except for one morning. I complained to about 4 different people, all of them said it was not their problem, including to Kleber, the guy from the reception, who said he is not the right person for me to complain about the pool temperature. Okay, so nobody is responsible for anything in this hotel. The interesting thing is that the bar pool was nice and warm when the kiddies was freezing cold. Understandable since kids do not spend money on beer like the adults in the bar do (I am being ironic, obviously). 3. The hotel has a kiddies playground, but it doesn't work during lunch time (12-2pm) and it closes at 6pm. So basically at 6pm if your child wants to play s/he can't because the kiddies pool is freezing cold and the dry playground is closed off. 4. The restaurant is great. My child is allergic and the manager did all in his power to make me feel comfortable, they made his meals separately. Paulo, the manager, is probably the best employee this hotel has. If I do come back to this hotel it will be only because of the restaurant. 5. The blankets smelled terrible. I asked for them for clean blankets and was told "only the old blue ones are available". I complained at the main desk and then like magic I got clean blankets. One of them was smelling clean, the other smelled horrible. The lady told me she just got them from the laundry room, so it was clean. Well, if that is the problem then they do have an issue with their laundry room. All I know is that nobody likes a smelly blanket. 6. Overall, too expensive for what it offers. Definitely not value for money.
