A wonderful place, with wonderful innkeepersThis lovely old house has five bedrooms. We stayed in Mt. Katahdin, which had three large windows. All rooms have an en suite bathroom, usually with the wash basin in the bedroom. The roomiest bathroom (with a window) is the Great Northern room. Baxter had the biggest shower. Compass Pond is maybe the biggest, with a rollaway bed in a cupboard. The Appalachian Trail is also big, with a queen and a single bed already assembled in the room. There is a pleasant extra room upstairs, with a computer, desk, refrigerator, and microwave. All the beds have charming quilts, with lots of folksy artwork on the walls. Think Cracker Barrel decor. Benny Little (who will cook you an infinite variety of delicious egg dishes for breakfast) and Lexi Widoff (whio will be happy to discuss art with you) are the nicest innkeepers we have encountered in a very long time

Wonderful visit!Thank you Lexie and Bennie! Could not have felt more welcomed and appreciated! We were happy to stay in their Baxter room, which was cozy and nice with full in suite bath. A huge selection of complimentary DVDs (which we did not use) and nice to have little TV in the room. Love the "common room" upstairs with availability of fridge, computer, and microwave. In room A/C, but not really needed. Nice to have little coffee maker in the room also. Bennie is a great cook! We were very impressed with his full and delicious breakfast. Sign in when you get there to choose a breakfast time, which is staggered by 15 minute intervals. Even a menu! Nice selections to enjoy! We totally enjoyed sitting on the front porch with a glass of wine in the afternoon. Easy one block walk to town, but town is quite empty with a lot of closed businesses. One good restaurant (Schootic's Inn) is a nice choice. Would come here again, but probably pick a room away from busy road (Baxter and Compass face the road).

Great B&BLovely, charming and comfortable. The young couple that operates this house are extremely affable and make an excellent breakfast. We got stuck with airline delays and there was a very straightforward after-hours check in process. We really enjoyed this place.

Wonderful hosts/not so wonderful bedThe house is lovely, and the hosts were extremely welcoming! We were in the Katahdin Room, which was very cozy with a bathroom right in the room. The bed was a bit past its prime, and was shaped like a "w" and had "ruts" on each side from being slept on over the years. We weren't able to partake in breakfast, as it started at 8 am, and we needed to be checked out and at Baxter State Park by then.

Room for rent...Our time at The Young House was, at best, a mixed experience. We now know that "For your privacy and security, once you arrive we never enter your room" is code for no housekeeping in your room. Or, make your own bed and clean up your bathroom. Funny, we never saw that mentioned on the website... While the house is interesting, it is poorly furnished. There are some nice open rooms on the first floor, but lack comfortable furniture to be inviting to read or longe in. What saved our visit were Bernie and Lexi who performed brilliantly in the kitchen and were fun to be around. Breakfast was outstanding and the choice overwhelming. We never saw or met the owners or we would have discussed this with them.
