Value for moneyI stayed at the York house in a single room for the night and the service at breakfast and choice of food was exceptional for the price i paid. The breakfast chef Barbara was a pleasure to speak to and she coked the best poached eggs i have had for a long while. Much better place to stay then the bog standard budget chain of hotels and kept the art of communication alive.

Great breakfastFriendly, helpful, clean, lots of towels, really well cooked traditional English breakfast and they got me some vege sausages in :) walking distance from anything you need. No problems at all. I'll stay here next time.

Be afraid. The York hotel or as now known the new york hotel. One of the worst places to stay. Dont be fooled by the online pics or reviews these are NOT what you get. (change the filter settings to show worst reviews first) Cheap in every aspect with no good points apart from leaving.

Not what it seemsNot as advertised, dirty bathroom, bad handling of faults with the plumbing, bar and lounge closed most nights, housekeeping inadequate, proprietor friendly but terrible communicator, unwilling or unable to deal with customer complaints, no staff on site most of the time.

Clean, comfortable and everything you needWhen it comes to staying somewhere, I am more used to staying in hotels than B&B's, more so because it is predictable and you know what to expect - even if hotel chains are sometimes a bit lifeless and repetitive. On a recent trip to Hartlepool, my friend and I were looking for somewhere to stay that was relatively cheap, conveniently located and would give us somewhere to put our heads down after a day of exploring. We booked the day before we made our way to Hartlepool so I knew that last minute, trying to find somewhere to stay (especially on bank holiday weekend) would be difficult. However, after half an hour of searching, my friend and I came across this B&B and decided to book. The York House is a B&B located about fifteen minute walk from the bus interchange in Hartlepool (next to the Marina) or a five minute walk from the Civic Centre in the heart of the town. The B&B is located on a main road with shops, bars and takeaways all within a couple of minutes walk. The building appears on your right hand side if you are walking from Hartlepool centre and can be found next to a funeral directors. Please note: Normally, being next to somewhere like that may have made me feel uncomfortable or on edge because I am slightly superstitious but I can honestly say, it never bothered me or hindered my experience what so ever, so please do not let it put you off going. On the opposite, it led to quite a few jokes between me and my friend about how well we would sleep...just hopefully not as well as the residents next door. We arrived late on the evening and arrived at the front door which is a keycode entry. I called the number on my reservation and was provided codes to get into the main and secondary door. As you enter the main building, the restaurant and bar is off to your immediate left with a small reception in front of you. As directed on the phone, there was an envelope with my name on, breakfast times, Wi-Fi password and my key and fob inside. We took ourself off to our room and I have to say that one of the first things I noticed, apart from the quietness, was how clean the corridors were. We found the room and walked in and both of us were really (pleasently) surprised. We had a twin room which was large, bright and comfortable. There was a large bathroom with a bath in to the right with towels located, folded on each of the beds. There were two twin beds, a TV and tea and coffee making facilities. There was a sideboard with a book about local places to visit which was nice to read and provided some inspiration for things to do whilst in the area. The room and bathroom was clean, tidy and comfortable, providing everything we needed to have a good nights sleep. It was nice to return after a night out, put the TV on and have a comfortable nights sleep before waking up to breakfast (included in the price) the following morning. The following morning, we made our way down to the restaurant that offers both continental and traditional English breakfasts including juices, cereals, yoghurts, fruit and tea and coffee. The hot breakfast is a traditional English breakfast with toast. We skipped the continental breakfast and went for the English. The lady that served us was efficient and polite with the breakfast coming quickly and fuelling us for the day ahead. Overall my experience of The York House was incredibly positive and for the price we paid (£54), I think it was well worth it. It would have cost double that amount to stay in a hotel that would not have included breakfast so I think that it is incredibly good value for money and I would certainly be looking to stay there again if I venture back to Hartlepool. So should you go? If you want somewhere to stay that is good value for money, located not too far from the Marina and town centre and are wallet/purse conscious, then you cannot go wrong with staying at this B&B.
