Comfortable place! We arrived with no reservation. We were greeted at the door in the pouring rain, shown a room and given a fair price. Then we were told to use the common areas if we wanted. I don't usually take a b&b host up on this, but the family was so relaxed, I watched tv in the tv room all evening. The husband of the proprietor, Steven came and watched with me. We had a great talk. The shower was hot, the bed was firm, the heat was on. The traditional Irish breakfast was delicious! The home is near the Ceide Fields and that was out goal the next day, so it was perfect. There was a view of the sea from our room!

Simply dreadfulWe wanted to visit the Ceide Fields and found this to be the closest B&B. So we booked. 'We're here from 5.00 p.m.' she said on the phone when I rang to enquire. Nobody was in when we arrived at 5.00 p.m.They were there 35 minutes later...not a good start. It got worse. The small room smelled strongly of parazone or domestos, was shabby, beds lumpy, sheets very old and worn and not even put on properly. The so-called en-suite was a cupboard in the corner with a sliding door which, when closed, left a 2inch gap. No privacy whatever. The handbasin was in the bedroom instead of the bathroom and had no towel rail close to it. The tap dripped all night. (we're waiting for the plumber, we were told). We didn't use the shower as it was not clean. The grouting was dirty, the shower-head cracked. (we were told there was a new one, out the back, waiting to be fitted). The bedside light didn't work. Another light was brought in but the old one wasn't removed so there was no room on the bedside locker for anything else. We had opted for the evening meal as there was nowhere else closeby. 'Fish or chicken?' she asked. I opted for fish. Overcooked fish which started life as mackerel, brown and hard as leather. Inedible. Potatoes like balls of lukewarm water. Veges which had come out of the freezer and been left to thaw, also like lukewarm water. The chicken 'Maryland' was very elderly when it died. She had almost cremated it. Apple tart and cream out of an aerosol followed. She charged 20 euro each. Dreadful. Never again. Not even worth one star.

Top marks for the best of Irish hospitalitySet in a beautiful location with views out to the coast this guest house is a beautiful stop close to Benwee Head and Erris Head. This family run guest house was like home from home. Dinner can also be provided upon request which prevents you having to drive into town. Despite its rural setting the wifi is excellent. The food was very good and room clean/comfortable. What made this stay different was the hospitality. I was made feel very welcome and enjoyed the craic. Well worth a visit for that alone.

Welcoming B& BWriting this on behalf of my daughter. She stayed here with her four children and husband and could find no fault with the accommodation and the breakfast. They were made very welcome. My daughter said they would definitely stay there again if ever in the area.

Like homeThis is essentially like a home because it was never planned out to be a B&B when it was built. Steven was very hospitable and made us comfortable. We were the only ones there that night. He offered us the common room for watching TV. He also sat with us during breakfast and chatted with us. The view was excellent - we could also see the ocean. We were observing the sheep from our window. It is a perfect place to forget about the city. Because it wasn't meant as a B&B, the towels and beddings are not as professional, which is to be expected.
