Need to up their gameMy cousins and I went to the Waterside at the Glen Mhor on Friday (17/07/20) for lunch. We were very unimpressed. First of all, we ordered brown bread and white bread arrived! This was corrected, but, obviously, we had a further wait until the correct sandwiches arrive at our table. Then, one of my cousins and I ordered Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese and Cucumber sandwiches. You would have almost needed a magnifying glass to see any Cream Cheese! My cousin, when the correct sandwich arrived and the waitress was still at our table, lifted up an edge of one of her sandwiches and said, "The bread does not have any butter." the waitress replied that they were spread with cream cheese instead, then left. After she had gone, my cousin had another look inside her sandwich and then commented, "There doesn't seem to be any cream cheese either!" This proved to be the case; however, on closer inspection a tiny amount of cream cheese could be seen on a couple of corners of the bread, but certainly not enough to make the sandwich in any way enjoyable. I did not look inside my sandwich. I was hungry and there was a substantial amount of smoked salmon and some cucumber; enough to satisfy my taste. However, I have to say also that I did not enjoy the coleslaw, which came with my sandwich; it was very vinegary. Neither did I enjoy my salad, which came with no dressing at all. There were other little grumbles attached to our visit to the Waterside restaurant. On arrival in the reception area, a sign was displayed asking us to wait to be seated. We waited but no-one was around. I wandered up to the Function Suite, because I have danced there often and wanted to show it to my cousin. It was there, around a screened corner, that I saw a waitress ready to take our orders. But, if I had not done that, we could have been waiting longer than necessary. when I challenged a member of staff, she said, "Oh that sign is for breakfasts", and she appeared to say, "you could have just turned it over."! Not my job, I would have thought! We ate in an outside courtyard where it was sunny and warm. no complaints about that. Although out cutlery did not arrive until after our sandwiches and I almost had to go and get it myself! However, this visit will go down in our memories as a less than pleasant one. My other cousin, the one I have not so far mentioned, is a visitor to the area and was not at all impressed. Normally, this hotel gives excellent service. My partner and I have eaten here, drank here and we have danced here. And we have ordered take-away food twice, which has been delicious, excellently provided and faultlessly delivered. this lunch was uncharacteristically bad, both for service and food quality. The Glen Mhor Hotel may own half the street, but if they are to survive in this changing and difficult new world, they really need to up their game, big time!!!

Poor service and awful foodTable booked for 730 for dinner. 40 minutes before someone even took our order, had to approach manageress to chase this up. Some tables arrived after us and got served long before we did but many others completely ignored like us. When they took our order we had to pay for it all upfront (£65.00) which was very bizarre as we noticed this was not consistently happening with all customers. Food arrived after hour and half of first arriving! Realised then why they were taking payment first. Awful! My husband ordered ribeye steak and chips and that is exactly what he got, nothing on his plate other than this small steak and about ten very cold chips for nearly £27.00! My fish and chips was exactly the same. Poor waiting staff run off their feet, far, far too short staffed. In summary avoid and dont be fooled by the glorious location.

Nice food. No Covid DistancingFood was good as was service but we'll not be back. The reason was we didn't feel safe and couldn't get out quick enough. Lucky if there was 2ft between tables and i was within 2ft of someone at next table. Staff couldn't move freely and had to squeeze between seated guests. All in all really poorly laid out and far from the required distancing. Very disappointing and unsafe.

Family and new friendsWhat a lovely setting but not a great start my brother booked a table by the window and he was not pleased as the restaurant didnt honour his request. We all went for various starters the duck was well cooked as was the scallops and prawn dishes. The main courses were also well presented the steaks chicken and venison dishes we all ordered were very well cooked. Only 2 sweets were ordered and the only complaint was there wasnt enough ice cream to accompany the cake dish. We all enjoyed our evening lovely venue with well cooked food. 8 out of 10 always honour your guests requests or say no at the time of booking

Very noisy plumbingSpent a night in room 900 which is an accessible room. Access to the room is along a dingy corridor passed the kitchen. The room itself is large although in need of upgrading, with a good sized wetroom, it has a door to an adjoining bedroom. The main problems were with poor sound insulation ,and very noisy plumbing I really don't want to hear upstairs and through the walls conversation, television and toilet habits. I was woken by the sound of upstairs toilet flushing not the best date to the day. On the plus side the "Early bird menu"was good value.
