Sadly a bit more shabby than chic.I initially had very positive vibes when booking - swapping rooms to accommodate a 2 night stay and bed request. I found the staff pleasant and friendly on arrival and during the stay. However simple things- not having the breakfast table with 2 knives (no spare knife to butter toast with) having to prompt for tea/ coffee and a limited breakfast choice was a shame. Breakfast was well cooked and the poached eggs were fresh and tasty. The decor is also dated, with a bit of TLC and care towards room cleanliness- dead flies on arrival in window & someones hair (I imagine from cleaning a comb) on the bedside table is rather a turn off! The pub food was simple pub grub. A few simple things, maybe a tea-light or two and printed - non old sticky bound menus would make it a charming place to dine. There is nothing wrong with pub grub when cooked well - which it was. Yes there were narrow lanes to get here, but thats the charm of staying in the West Country. If youre not confident at reversing when driving then stay in the chain pub on a main road! Its a beautiful, peaceful location in easy distance of Totnes and Dartmouth with riverside walks along country lanes lined with cottages and idillic gardens. With a lick of paint & some simple prints and some furniture more in keeping with a county pub it could turn heads- the location is stunning!! The staff friendly, it just needs a little bit of organisation and pulling together. On a positive the signs for disabled assistance- thumbs up from me for a good idea!!

What a beautiful place, what lovely peopleWe came across this place a few years ago when driving past. We stopped for a little while with the dogs to enjoy the view and the river. We had a reason to be in the area and thought we would stay at The Waterman's Arms this time, and we are really glad we did. The place is beautiful -- the view in the morning is fab -- and we could bring our dog. So -- the room: The bed was comfortable, it had everything we needed and the bathroom was clean and shiny. It was cleaned every day. The Staff: What a friendly bunch of people. They worked so, so, so hard. I can't thank them enough. The location: If you want a great place to explore the area -- and enjoy the seclusion of narrow country lanes and lovely views -- this is a great place to be. The amenities: Good food, a great breakfast, drinks and so many beautiful walks nearby. Conclusion: This is a fabulous, family-run Inn situated in an idyllic location and near some of the most beautiful places in the UK. We can't thank them enough for a lovely stay.

Very disappointingHaving just spent a few nights here we left very dissatisfied. The price of the room, breakfast included, simply didn't represent any kind of value for money.Put simply, you pay for the location. The room itself, advertised as superior, was damp, mildew stained bathroom tiles, chipped bath with rust and a toilet seat that was broken. The bed, whilst being comfortable had large stains on the mattress and base.Breakfast was comical.Scrambled egg,I think budget best describes this.Quantity and size of toast portions pathetic.Chair cushions in the breakfast room worn out.To be fair the tea was good.An evening meal in the bar was just very average. On complaining, presumably with an owner was told of family problems.Well I think we can all sympathise with that but the price of rooms need to reflect the overall condition of the establishment and quality of the breakfast rather than the lovely location.

Poor performanceAccommodation corridor smell is overpowering with air fresheners which makes you feels nauseous.I removed spiders out the windows with a small webb cocooned spider noticed on the bathroom door. Food is poor with lasagne burnt for dinner. Breakfast is average. Staff going through the motions but not overly helpful.
