Serene Home, delicious Food, Splendid HospitalityWe had a delightful stay at Barr House during the Christmas long weekend. Had a quiet and peaceful break away from the hustle bustle of Mumbai, just what we wanted! The old colonial mansion is lovely and is located at a peaceful end of Matheran with lots of trekking routes nearby. We stayed at one of the ground floor Superior rooms and had full privacy and an excellent view of the forest. We loved the food and especially enjoyed the authentic continental and Parsi dishes. The staff were prompt and non-invasive. Ratheesh who was managing the stay was particularly helpful. Thank you to the team for the lovely vacation we had! We hope to come back soon.

Hidden Gem of MatheranDune Barr is a well maintained heritage property located about 4.5kms from Dasturi Car point (2Kms from Matheran Market). The team is really helpful and we got detailed information regarding routes, toy train timings, general rates for horses/potters etc, menu etc before arrival. There is very limited network coverage in the area, with wifi available at one spot only. So this is THE place you must visit when you plan one of those 'go where the wifi is weak' trips! Also there are no TVs in the rooms. But with so much to trek and see around, one hardly misses the electronics. The food is outstanding. We tried traditional Parsi cuisine, Rajasthani Laas Maans, Smoked Chicken, Pastas, their homemade icecreams, apple pie to humble pakhora... nothing disappointed. The rooms are big and are comfortably furnished. The property offers various seating areas and all are tastefully done. It is priced slightly expensively, but it is worth the splurge.

Beautiful heritage property with warm serviceThe setting is just magical. Away from the hustle and bustle of the market area Beautiful heritage home with surrounding trees.. I spent hours hanging out in the veranda and garden Awesome food.. Everything I had was super delicious.. Highly recommend the ratatouilles (Its more similar to its greek cousin but oh so delicious.. I polished off :D ) The dining setup is nice.. veranda or the long dining room :) The room is spacious and has a huge bathroom too. It gives a true heritage property feel. (Which also means that everything is not scratch-free and shiny new but thats the point here) The hotel manager and staff were very attentive and helpful.. always available whenever I needed something I was the only guest for my first night there and the manager took extra efforts to make me feel comfortable (he lives with his wife and kids in the adjacent bungalow and told me to reach out if I need anything) You can walk to the property in around 20/25 min from the toy train station. And then you can walk to different points from there within half an hour to an hour.. (Charlotte lake and lords point is just a 5 min walk)
