Brilliant location, great pub and lovely room

Stayed in Shrewsbury for a party and used this hotel as a base. Whilst it did not include breakfast, we found the local Wetherspoons was only a 5 minute walk away. We stayed in room 8, which had a double bed and a single bed and was a spacious and luxurious room. There was a kettle with tea and coffee, iron and ironing board, toiletries and a big flat screen tv and a very comfy bed with plenty of pillows. The room itself felt really modern and clean and it was made better with the view of the castle. There was a fan provided so it didnt get to warm. Whilst there was 3 flights of stairs, we coped fine with this and being on the top floor meant we were away from the noise of the pub. The pub itself has a great selection of beer, ale, spirits and cider and the staff are very welcoming. Overall we found it to be a great stay and would stay again.

    Very basic

To be honest its been a while since I stayed in such basic accommodation. I wouldnt say it was very cheap either as we paid £140 for 2 people for 2 nights out of season. The room was cold, no double glazing, curtains wouldnt close properly, shower was cold, furniture very shabby, blankets too thin, carpet dirty, room on 3rd floor with no lift on a very steep staircase. The list can carry on. There is no Parking either so add another £10 per night to park from 6pm till 7am in the morning in the nearest multi story car park. The only positive thing is the location. Very close to city centre and train station. Definitely wont stay there again and wont recommend it to anyone!

    Avoid

Will never stay here again! Under our bed was filthy bathroom a complete nightmare especially door to go in! Dangerous step to shower outside our door ceiling falling down narrow winding stairs to rooms. Nobody around after pub closes and checkout not even an emergency contact number! AVOID.

Cheap, cosy and overnight security was a pleasant surprise

Basically rooms above a pub, but cosy and warm, and definitely comfortable. Unlike one of the recent reviews on here, seemed to be a security person who spent night sat in pub on his laptop (I got in at 11pm and left at 6am) which surprised me as didn't see a single other person staying but reflects well on how seriously they take the welfare of their guests, perhaps this is a new feature. Rooms are a bit tired and up several flights of stairs but well maintained and what you'd expect above a pub. Only downside, and I've no problem with pubs - I spend enough time in them myself! - but for older or more sensitive travellers worth noting seemed to be a bit of a weekday (this was Tuesday) 'afternoon drinking' spot if you're familiar with the type of people in them, so awkward checking in getting key from bar, one strange bloke wanted to shake my hand and rambled away to me. Room is reached through the pub goers from the corner of the bar. Minor grumble given the price.

    Terrible

Well, what can I say, we've stayed in many many hotels for what we payed here and never has one of them been in as much disrepair as this one. The room smelt damp, there was mould on the walls and when you see the pics I've posted of the shower, you can see why we decided not to partake in stepping inside it. £80 for this is despicable.
