Good food, nice surroundings, recommendedHad an evening meal here with a couple of walking companions whilst walking St. Cuthbert's Way. Surrounding were pleasant, staff friendly and the Covid precautions in place. Had a couple of well kept pints of bitter and some very nice food. Had a recommendation from an adjacent, but socially distanced, table that the Minced Beef Pie was "Excellent". And so it proved along with really good chips and peas. A lot of them! And even better they actually tasted as fresh peas should. Not forgetting the jug of gravy. For dessert the Spotted Dick with Ice Cream went down well. Had checked with the staff about the custard, one of the options other than ice-cream. They reported back that it was "sweet", so I avoided that. My walking friends confirmed that the information was accurate. Seems a small point but in so many places the staff don't know and/or can't be bothered to check. Overall the meal/evening was very good. Recommended!

A Friendly WelcomeIf you like staying in accommodation that has a lot of history this is it. Food was good and the presentation in the separate dinning room and breakfast hall added to the experience. We were encouraged to treat the hotel as our home and our very large room was well equipped. I have never had the pleasure of being looked after by such friendly staff, Nothing was too much trouble and they all appeared to be enjoying our company as much as we enjoyed theirs..

Nice Friendly Hotel food very limitedI like the hotel didn't care it was dated just like a quiet room which I got at the back of the hotel. I know the menu has to be limited with Covid19 being around but it was a bit too limited. Large quantity but no Veg and no Sunday Roast. Last time I was there they did a good Sunday roast but my Rambling Group was very disappointed with the Sunday menu quiche, barbeque chicken wings or lasagne for a main course.

Walking Group Long WeekendOur Midlands based walking group originally booked The Tankerville Arms for our Spring weekend away which was stymied by the pandemic lockdown, but the hotel kindly offered to carry our deposits forward to a suitable September date which we duly accepted. Twenty-five of us in total with a good price on double rooms with single occupancy so as not to disadvantage some of our members. All rooms were clean and comfortable with no issues as such. OK, so some of us had to wait a couple of minutes for the hot water to come through, but thats no big deal. The home cooked food was excellent throughout our four night stay and there was certainly plenty of it. Having been disappointed elsewhere I always bring plenty of extra rations but this time they stayed in the car untouched. Nobody left the table hungry. Add in a nice selection of local ales and what more could you want? Service levels were exceptional and very friendly despite the staff having to wear mandatory face coverings or face shields at all times. There is a strong team ethic here and it shows. Nothing was too much bother including a few tweaks to the menu when individuals requested it. The management even organised entertainment for us on the Friday evening. This is a three star rated establishment so dont expect chocolates on your pillow or fancy origami at the end of the loo roll. However, if youre looking for good honest Northumbrian hospitality at keen prices then The Tankerville Arms is hard to beat. Highly recommended.

Hotel Was OKWe stayed here for 3 nights in September, checking in was fine, our room was comfortable, i liked the fact that we had a bath and shower in the bathroom, in most places now you just get a shower. The Internet didn't work, we tried the password, it just didnt work, this was a pain as we were there for 3 nights. We dined in the restaurant each evening, the meals were variable, and the staff seem very disorganised, some of this could be to do with covid measures, which is hard for everyone. the breakfasts were ok too.
