So disappointedHaving read the rather dated reviews on Trip Advisor we were looking forward to staying in a 'shabby chic' B & B. It was not chic or quirky but very shabby. The whole place is tired and dated and in great need of decoration and refurbishment. It was pokey with no room for comfy chairs to watch the TV. There were raw plugs holes left in the wall where a previous TV had been sited. There was paint peeling off the walls in the lounge/bedroom and black mold in the bathroom where there had been a previous leak. The single room was stark and very cold. The clock on the wall didn't work. Although there was an ironing board there was no iron and also no hairdryer. The smoke alarm didn't work. The crockery and cutlery were all odd. The landlord seemed reluctant to provide a cooked breakfast, as we had an early start. He said there was plenty of cereals and he would bring across some bread we could toast. We insisted on some thing cooked for 7.45a.m. This he did provide, and I must say it was most enjoyable.Another plus was that the WiFi worked really well. Mobile phone coverage in this area is almost nil. At £80 a night this B & B is desperately over priced and frankly not worth it. They really need to up their game if they are charging this kind of price. So sorry but it was not a particularly pleasant experience.

Absolutely fine - great breakfastI felt compelled to write a review after the harsh one left recently. We had a comfortable nights sleep and a good breakfast. We were attending a 40th party in the village so this worked perfectly for us as we could walk there. For the money it hits the mark.

Warm, Cosy, Homely.Stayed here for a night for a wedding I was working at. Was provided with a very homely atmosphere, staff were fantastic and couldn't help enough. Friendly, Quirky and well kept. Honestly, nothing bad to say.

Lovely! We spent three nights at The Stables in early December. The room was warm, cosy and comfortable, and the breakfast superb. We slept beautifully! We found the stay very relaxing - just what the doctor ordered! We were very lucky to have found such a nice place to stay in the country. If we're ever in the area again, we won't hesitate to stay there again.

Great hospitality throughout my stay. Warm, welcoming and a lovely location. The welcome I received as a solo traveller, was warm and friendly, and Martin and Debbie continued to provide great hospitality throughout my stay, not to mention Colin's fabulous breakfasts which provided the day with a lovely start. The apartment was clean, comfortable and provided all that was needed on a hospitality and a practical level for a very pleasant stay. The double bed was comfortable (didn't try the single bed). Tourist guidebooks and information were available to help explore the area, which has a lot to offer - Calke Abbey, Staunton Harold, the lovely town of Melbourne, etc. Ticknall is a very pretty village in an ideal location with helpful and friendly people and public transport is available, with a regular bus service from Swadlincote to Derby with a bus stop very close by. There is a village shop, which is very convenient. and also serves delicious food. For any traveller, the wifi was excellent. I had an excellent stay, and cannot fault any part of it. Keep up the good work!
