    Terrible hotel

Stayed here for two nights to catch up with friends nearby. Upon arrival at 6.30pm on the Friday night we were informed that the kitchen was shut so no food available that evening, Not a good start. The room was basic, we had only one towel between the two of us and no shower gel. In the drawers in the bedroom, we found an old mouldy jumper, half a tub of peanut butter and a sanitary towel, clearly hadnt been checked after the previous people had left. The room and bathroom were musty and stank, the toilet seat was broken. The bed was extremely hard and had a terrible nights sleep and woke up with back ache, along with the very uncomfortable pillows. The hotel was very outdated and needed a good update. It seemed like one person was doing everything, reception, bar staff, breakfast staff. In the morning there was no breakfast set up, it seemed like a huge inconvenience to ask the lady behind reception for a cooked breakfast. There was no hot eater for coffee/ tea, I had to ask for a plate and cutlery in the morning for breakfast . Staff dreadful, Very very poor experience indeed.

    excellent value for money

we paid 35.00 for an en-suite double with breakfast, how cheap can it be, but the service and quality was excellent for the price, the room was spotless and a good size, everything worked, we had a quite nights sleep, breakfast was a little odd tbh, but we got by helping our selves, no cooked option was offered to us although two other guest had a huge plate full!!, would we god back, at this price YES

Sanctuary from the Beast from the East

I stayed at the St George Hotel at the beginning of last year during the onslaught of a weather front that was christened as 'the beast from the east'. A good foot of snow fell and gave the hotel quite an eerie atmosphere to go with the hotels history. Formerly an Officers Mess for the RAF and primarily the Canadian Royal Airforce, it took me back many years to a period of time when I had to survey a similar RAF Officers Mess building in Finningley, Doncaster. Anyway I'm digressing and boring you now; On a more interesting note, There's a bronze statue of a Canadian pilot outside the hotel who perished selflessly trying to cut his fellow crew members out of the burning plane as it plummeted to earth. Amazingly the axe he was using is also hung up on one of the wall as well as various other associated air-force paraphernalia. The hotel was serene and quiet during my stay, partly due to the weather and secondly due to the sadly limited flights too and from Teesside airport which is bang outside the hotel. Staff were very friendly and the rooms were dated but were in keeping with the hotels history and good value for money. Breakfast was also relaxed and well put together despite some of the staff struggling to get into the hotel and other staff being stranded in the hotel overnight courtesy of the weather. All in all the St George is a great option for an overnight stay before travelling from Teesside airport or is a great overnight stop off point for a journey but would be a bit remote for anyone staying who wants to have a wander out of the hotel but doesn't have transport. My only disappointment was that I wasn't woken by the ghost of a Canadian Royal Airforce Pilot in the middle of the night (purely out of paranormal interest and nothing of a sexual nature obviously).

    Could be soo much better

Just come back from a 3 night stay for a wedding , cant fault the location for such an event but the rooms were such a let down. Now I know this is only a 3 star hotel but when you are charged £99 a night you should expect to have a working shower, plug sockets not hanging off the walls , having to spend nearly an hr trying to kill flies and be able to see what is in the wardrobe ( 6 lights n the room and still couldnt see inside the robe ) night of the wedding a glass as accidentally smashed near the dance floor , was reported twice , I went up to see if anything was going to be done about it and the response was they shouldnt of had a glass there anyway not the response you expect from the bar manager , no telephone in your room , was told there should be one , after all this we still had a lovely time at the wedding but its a shame about the hotel rooms and attitude of certain members of staff
