  Overpriced student digs

  Sadly overpriced, run like a student digs, beautiful property in upmarket Wembley, but no organized parking for guest cars (although it is safely off-street), the intercom didn't work, the pool was green, no shower pressure, and the two friendly dogs on property look like they need a hasty visit to the SPCA. We felt like we were imposing on the owners / hosts, Nihal is nice but his co-hosts / family / employees were snarky and unhelpful; seriously, if you don't want to be in the service industry, get out of it! R650 for the room with breakfast (two adults sharing), R600 without... It was maybe worth R200. The supposed AC advertised was not working, thank goodness it rained or we would've been even more peeved about the room. I wouldn't recommend this establishment when there are other better priced B&Bs in the same area.

  Great Stay

  I stayed at The Sleeping Bao for one night in March and had a great experience. Nihal & Manisha were very accommodating and made our stay one to remember. The cottage we stayed in was setup beautifully and well equipped.

  Not too bad.

  We stayed at The Sleeping Bao for two days while working in PMB. Although things are not perfect, most of them work and if you raise an issue they respond quickly. So I think it's decent enough value for money. We stayed in the outside rooms next to the pool, which were probably built a bit more recently. They are a bit cheaply built but things are more or less in place. I think they have lowered their price since some of the other reviews were written, or it was a special - it may have helped that I enquired as to whether we could get their most affordable rooms. This is a good place if you are relaxed, working on a budget, and would like to be close to town.

  Friendliest guesthouse in town!

  Nice place to stay with soooo friendly owners. We came from UK and arrived with the summer rains, unexpected cold weather, so liked the warm welcome,with suppers made for us as it was pouring outside, and the impromtu bar. Nihal and Manisha are lovely people with 2 great kids. Do ask for a mobile number to contact them if needed though, as they are understandably busy with school runs etc. The room was fine with old Dutch furniture. Pool chilly but weather was really awful as we swam. Next day went out and good restuarants nearby and wildlife park and Natal Museum close too.

  Great value and world class service

  Simple little bed and breakfast in an amazing old heritage house. Basic accommodations and not for anyone who suffers from OCD but world class service from the owner and staff. Perfect for you if you need basic accomodation in central Pietermaritzburg.
