Fabulous food, lovely staff, great place to eatWeve just been to the Ship for an evening meal and it was great. The staff are all very friendly and are well trained in Covid management. The food was lovely, portion sizes perfect, didnt feel overwhelmed. The atmosphere was relaxing. All in all, a great place to eat.

Absolutely fabulous! We've just returned from a 2 night stay at the Ship Inn and would highly recommend without hesitation. A friendly and warm welcome at arrival, superb Covid planning which reassures and builds confidence, immaculate and spacious room with a view, extra comfy bed, delicious varied breakfast options served with a cheery chat - this place has it all! Location is also superb in the heart of Gatehouse of Fleet and right on the doorstep of the Galloway Forest Park, brilliant beaches and lovely historic towns. We will definitely be back!

A MEMORABLE STAYWe were making our way back to England having been up in the Highlands and decided to make a visit to the Ship as part of the holiday having read the reviews. We were not disappointed. From the warm welcome on arrival and all the help needed from a really efficient and friendly young lady to Jonathan kindly printing off a walk for us as we checked out, everything was perfect. We had a great room overlooking Fleet Street which was warm, clean and very comfortable. The dinner was truly exceptional and very modestly priced. The scallops were fantastic as was the belly pork and the portions so generous that pudding was simply impossible. Breakfast was also excellent with a great choice including eggs royal with good quality smoked salmon and hollandaise. All in all a wonderful experience. Thank you.

LOVELY OLD INN MADE FAMOUS BY DOROTHY L SAYERS & LORD PETER WIMSEYWe visited here for a meal just to be in the famous , what was, the Anworth Hotel made famous by Dorothy LSayers in her book Five Red Herrings. Alas it is not as it was, all old stone and smokey bar and lounge. It has been thoroughly modernised and is unrecognisable from the book. But if you stand outside and squint you can dream of the past and imagine, as outside has changed little. You think Lord Pater will be sitting in the bar ordering an old malt and trying to solve the crime. Saying that, the owner is an absolute delight. He is friendly and helpful and very funny. He loves the connection and is going to do a small info corner and put in some memorabilia he has. There are still some nice touches, the original owners board is lovely, and some odds and ends left behind. The dining room is very modern but beautifully done. Sumpathetic highland colours and is understated and muted. This really is a fabulous stopping off point if on your way to the ferry or just travelling around SW Scotland. in fact Gatehouse is a lovely quaint place definitely away from the madding crowd.
