  Period elegance in relaxing comfort.

  We have just spent a lovely 5 days at The Shelleys. The building itself is beautiful - a grade II listed country house yet just a stone's throw from the town centre, peaceful but very convenient for local restaurants and shops. The antique/period style furniture and furnishings are in keeping with its heritage and although the decor is a little faded it just adds to its charm and the feeling that one has stumbled into a P G Wodehouse novel and might at any minute bump into Jeeves or Aunt Agatha in one of the corridors! The staff are friendly and attentive but not fawning. Our room (a suite, in fact) was lovely - comfortable and clean. Only breakfast (not dinner) is available at the moment because of Covid-19 restrictions, but the menu is varied and the quality very good. The grounds are lovely but need some gardening TLC, however, as the hotel has only recently opened following lockdown it is hardly surprising that there is still some work to do. We loved our time there and will definitely be staying again before too long.

  Absolutely love this place

  Stumbled upon this hotel quite by chance a few weeks ago only intending to stay for one night, and ended up staying for three nights because we liked it so much. It's a beautiful hotel which is beautifully run by Eliana who could not have been more helpful and charming. Breakfast on the lawn each morning was a fabulously sedate experience. Thank you Eliana, we will be coming back

  Good potential but poor customer service

  My husband and I booked for two nights. We were attracted by website photos of the hotel and restaurant. However on arrival we were surprised by the curt manner of the manageress, told (not politely asked) to wear face masks at all times and advised the restaurant was closed. The decor was very faded and whilst clean upholstery of chairs poor and paint peeling. We were subsequently advised the restaurant would be open that evening and both the meal and service (by a very friendly waiter) was good. The next morning we were advised our room would not be serviced and the restaurant closed. When we checked out I remarked the website should advise the restaurant wasnt always open and if you stayed two or three nights there would be no maid service. The manageresss response she didnt make the rules! We will not be returning.

  Needs a revamp

  For a supposed 4 star hotel I was pretty dissapointed. First of all the staff were terrific and loved the sit down check in. The garden was lovely too in the afternoon sun for a couple of beers but was basically told we were closed in the evening ie. no food no drinks, I know these are difficult times but... And the room and corridors seemed in desperate need of updating, and mould too sadly Such a shame it hasn't yet returned to I guess it's glorious past. Breakfast dissapointing too.

  Charming Hotel

  Full of period features, very clean, comfortable spacious bed, and an atmospheric room. Staff were very friendly and polite. English breakfast was served with cold beans which was rather disappointing but overall excellent and I will be staying again.
