A wonderful B&B to enjoy your stay when in Sturgeon BayRuth is an amazing women and overall cook. The breakfast was delicious and the baked goods yummy. The room was beautiful and very comfy. I loved the view of the lake in the morning and the sun shinning. I truly recommend this place for any type of getaway.

Off-season stay - nice and quiet, good but with some quirksMy wife and I chose to stay here for our first trip to Door County. We wanted to try a B&B and have minimal experience to compare our stay to. We came during the off-season, and it ended up that we were the only guests staying there the entirety of our 3-night stay. We stayed in the Lady Slipper room. I imagine this could be awkward if the B&B were full with other guests, as it connects directly with the main living room area and the pocket door isn't good at dampening sound from either direction. The bed was fairly comfortable, with average pillows. I was surprised to not see additional pillows, sheets, nor blankets available within the room. The toilet & sink area is small and cramped, don't expect to sprawl out much in the room in general. However, the whirlpool bath is big and works really well, which was a huge boon for us to relax after long days out and about. Breakfast was outstanding each day! The evening treat was appreciated, though mixing it up with something (it was brownies each night for us) would be a nice touch. It also would have been nice to have access to coffee or tea at all hours, though the morning coffee was great. It was very quiet, and neither of the hosts spent too much time with us. I'm not sure if that dynamic was them trying to be respectful of just the two of us being there, in the sense that if there were 6-8+ people at the table the hosts may have been more sociable. What conversation we did have was pleasant. I'm not sure that this B&B (or B&Bs in general) are necessarily for us, but I would certainly be willing to recommend The Sawyer House.

Not worth what we paid.My husband and I are frequent visitors to the Door County area. Weve stayed at many B and Bs. We are rather disappointed in our one night stay at Sawyer House. Upon arrival we were asked how we would like our coffee in the morning and to decide now because we cant change our minds later. I requested cream that never came. The mattress was very hard and the pillows (one each side) were flat. I didnt sleep well at all. The shower stall was extremely tiny with a plastic liner that wasnt too clean. The breakfast was 2 tiny muffins and a plastic cup of Dole fruit cocktail. We ended up driving to McDonalds to get an Egg McMuffin for breakfast. Certainly disappointed in our stay and would not stay here again. There are plenty of other inns in the area that are much better.

First visit to Door CountyMy fiancé and I booked The Sawyer House as a remedy for our postponed wedding (thanks COVID). It is a 15 minute walk across the bridge to Sturgeon Bay's downtown, and about a 45 minute drive to Sister Bay. Our room was clean and comfortable and quiet. We could sometimes hear people walking above us, but we were so exhausted from adventuring that it wasn't a concern. The baked goods for breakfast were delicious! We'll be back.

Don't Go During COVID-19 PandemicWhile it is a beautiful Victorian house, there is little opportunity to enjoy it. Part of staying at a B and B is the very nice breakfast. When I booked the room for my hubby and me, I saw the web site specified that, because of COVID-19, there would be a "continental" breakfast served daily. That term can mean just about anything from sugary donuts to hot or cold cereal, usually with fruit. I took the gamble that there would at least be hot oatmeal. I lost the gamble. We were served muffins, little slices of flavored breads, apples, and coffee, both days. The variety centered on different flavors of muffins and breads and different types of apples. Otherwise, there was no variety. Excellent coffee, though, if you like strong coffee (and I do). Just know that if you stay there, you won't be able to eat anywhere but your room, because eating anywhere else in the house is currently off limits. The jacuzzi in the room was very nice! More than enough room for two adults. Watch out for the stairs though! They are very steep and I took a full tumble down the last two stairs before reaching the outside door and landed on both knees, both arms, and with the toes on one foot hyperextend upward. I wound up with some pretty bad bruising on my toes. In all fairness to the owner, I didn't report it and I didn't need to see a doctor. It is just a fair warning to all who read this that the stairs are steep and you need to be careful, like I obviously wasn't. So, in a different time, when COVID-19 is done, I am sure this would be a nice place to stay. It is a gorgeous old mansion with a lot of character, just as I would expect from a B and B.
