  First trip alone

  I recently lost my best friend and travel companion and this was my first mini vacation-what a pleasure. The hotel is old but the room are updated as best they could and still keep the charm. Due to the Covid their limited breakfast was brought to your room at the time you requested, nice way to wake up to hot coffee, all you do is open the door. I love the area and this is a great location and Ill be back, thank you again

  Anniversary Weekend

  Pros - The hotel is in a great location, very quaint and historical. We were in a premium room, 2nd floor overlooking the pool. The room was well appointed, although a little smaller than we expected. Loved having the shared balcony to escape too and it was nice meeting our neighbors. My favorite thing is the spa music in the background while sitting outside by the pool. The location makes it easy to walk to the beach up Flagler Avenue. Having the restaurant on the property was an added perk, sitting on the deck overlooking the river was very peaceful for happy hour. Cons - The woman that checked us in was rude. She insisted we wear a mask and then didn't like the mask I wore and started to give me another one. I told her I had another one and put that one on instead. She didn't like that mask either and sent another employee to check us in, while she completely ignored us. After that, we came and went through the back door all weekend in order to avoid her. We never went down to see the gift shop although it looked like they had some cute things. Upon checking out, we had to take the keys back to the desk. I walked in the front door, ready to put on my mask on and the two employees at the desk were not wearing masks. What is up with that?

  Perfect for one night only

  I feel like I may have different expectations to most of the reviewers who have given this a 5. The pros - the rooms are very clean and nicely decorated. Comfortable bed. Ans as we were just using New smyrna as a stop off to break up the drive between Georgia and Miami, this worked fine. The not so good. Not the hotels fault. But New Smyrna is a bit of a dump. I walked down to the beach and it was packed sports bars and dirty cafes along the way. We were really glad we were not staying more than a night but didn't really know where to go for dinner. The hotel sells itself on its name of riverview and all the promotional photos show the charming facade of the hotel and the river which is close. However, when we arrived we realized it is dwarfed by the main road and the bridge. Which was pretty ugly. And our room looked out on a brick wall. Because of its location, it is also very noisy. Car noise, traffic. We also had a lot of people walking last our room as we were next to the hotel back door. We could also here the chef from next door restaurant yelling in the car park at 11pm. The bizarre - this hotel also wins the award for most over engineered shower. The ridiculous thing being, it had all these settings but no temperature control! So only temperature was scalding hot. Final comment. Mask wearing is mandatory in the hotel which is good. But noted the lady who delivered our breakfast to our room, had hers on her chin.

  Kay was a delight and a huge help

  The hotel had recently made improvements to the room's door jambs. Some of the improvements interfered with the door lock. Kay, who was on duty during most of our stay, made arrangements for repairs, and most importantly, stayed with it until our door was fixed. Otherwise, the hotel has an awesome view and is a fun place to stay.

  an elegant trip into a bygone era

  what a lovely time we had in this quaint historic boutique hotel. And so impressive in its efforts to keep us safe. The insistence on masks, shield around the check-in area. 24-hour coffee still available but served one cup at a time, breakfast with pre-packaged items served in our room combined to make us feel safe. Part of the fun is the gift shop which is scattered throughout the lobby. Adjacent Spa at Riverview and Riverview Grille create a self-contained luxury retreat within minutes by car from other attractions in New Smyrna Beach especially the Atlantic Beach.
