  Lovely room, good facilities, noisy kitchen extract system

  I stayed in the Rising Sun for 4 nights and the room was at the back and bright, airy and well kitted out. There was a separate shower and bath, but the bathroom fan was on permanently - it turned out to prevent kitchen food smells reaching the bathroom.... It couldn't be turned off and only turned off when the kitchen fume extract system turned off at 11pm each night. The bed was great, nice decor and shutters on the windows. The shower however wasn't cleaned the whole time I was there as there were hairs in the shower when I arrived and still there when I left. Breakfast was pretty basic, but functional for those not looking for a monstrous start to the day. Although its very close to the road, noise isn't really an issue. I'd recommend it for short stays or travelling onwards. I would stay again.

  Very friendly

  We stayed here for one night following a funeral. We found the whole place to be spotless. Rooms were well decorated with nice little touches. Tea & coffee facilities included hot chocolate & even biscuits. We ate there that evening & all enjoyed our meals, breakfast was also good, but would have liked a scrambled egg choice. We were lucky with good weather so we're able to sit out into lovely garden with our drinks. Would not hesitate to stay here again in the area.

  Poor housekeeping.

  Booked in for three nights and the first impressions were good; a very spacious room, excellent decor and furniture and a modern shower-room. However, the housekeeping turned out to be virtually non-existant. First problem arose when I enquired about the restaurant for our first evening, I was advised that the bar and restaurant were closed for the night as it was New Year's Day. All the rooms were allegedly booked that night, but being a hotel, no food available for residents? As it transpired this worked in our favour as we booked into the restaurant at Backwell House Hotel; exceptional standards of food, service and surroundings in the same price range as our venue. Highly recommended, as is Al Fresco Italian, both within five minutes easy drive of the Rising Sun. Now the housekeeping, or lack of. Our room wasn't vacuumed throughout our stay, verified by a dead beetle and leaves that were lying on the floor on our arrival and removed by ourselves on our last night. Our waste bins weren't emptied at all during our stay. On our last day no housekeeper had even entered the room, it being exactly as we had left it that morning . When we brought this to the attention of the duty manager he apologised and advised that the housekeeper was on holiday, and in his defence he did attend immediately to the replenishment of tea, coffee, toilet rolls etc. and offer us a complimentary drink at the bar in that evening. I appreciate some disruption may occur when usual staff are not on duty, but if you contract to provide a service, some effort ought to be made to honour such (OHH note). The lack of housekeeping attention also extended to the access corridor to the guest rooms, the carpet being covered in soggy, dead leaves that had obviously not been cleared for some considerable time. All the staff we dealt with were pleasant, friendly and helpful, so it was disappointing to exprerience the catalogue of poor standards listed. The OHH website infers a champagne standard, unfortunately at the minute it's being served in plastic cups. Would we use OHH again, no.

  Lunchtime

  One of the best meals for some time anywhere. Chicken Supreme...served hot, well presented, full of different flavours and a lovely pint of Moretti to go with it, Excellent. Also Dogs allowed in bar area. Great service too.

  Absolutely superb pub/hotel, worthy of 10*

  I stayed here for 5 nights & couldn't have found a better hotel. I travelled alone which at first was very daunting but the staff were so kind, helpful & welcoming & for the whole of my stay nothing was too much trouble & they all went the extra mile not just for me but all their guests. The hotel is modern, smart, comfortable, spotlessly clean & very Covid safe. I had a lovely room & ensuite & the shower was great as was my bed! I had breakfast & dinner there every day & the quality was fantastic & some of the best food I've ever tasted. Their desserts are to die for! I have nothing but praise for this hotel & was sad to leave. It's a lovely hotel but what stood out for me were the friendly, professional staff & great food. I would definitely go back. Highly recommended. Well done & thank you to everyone who made my stay so enjoyable.
