Fabulous hotel near NewburyWe had a deluxe room for our recent visit, which was a great size, very clean & extremely comfortable. Given visit was during current Covid 19 restrictions, we felt extremely safe and all aspects of our visit were carefully considered. There are a number of things that had been put in place but we cannot list them all here. All staff wore face masks the whole time, including in the restaurant. Guests were also required to wear face masks the whole time, except for when they were eating, of course. Free room service was available. Adaptations were made for use of spa/leisure facilities i.e booking of swimming pool, sauna, steam rooms etc. The staff in this hotel are truly exceptional and cannot do enough for their customers. Just to mention a few that stood out, Alina, restaurant supervisor, ensured our meal times were a lovely experience. We would like to thank Artie & Antonia for being so helpful & professional. Last, but certainly not least, Daminda (duty manager, we think) is a shining light of this establishment. He is always very welcoming and tends to any queries straight away. If you are looking for a relaxing, friendly and well run hotel, this is the place to stay. P.S. Try the confit duck and any of their chocolate desserts

disapointingBad start, no one on reception had to call for someone to come. Rooms are large but felt like an office with a desk in the rooms. Had to change rooms several times due to an issue with the toilet, was offered a free upgrade but this was an accessible room which we found insulting. Arty who works there saved the day by giving us a proper upgrade and this made us feel better about the place. The food was great and nicely presented. Staff thin on the ground and had to wait for someone to appear when we entered the dining room, but this is unforeseen times so hopefully would be better when this awful covid has gone. The spa treatment by Ency was wonderful. The pool was goog.

More of a 3 star hotelMyself and my partner booked this hotel as a late relaxing birthday treat for us to have time away from the kids. We thought we book a little more luxury and paid the extra and book a delux room with breakfast. We arrived just after 2pm and were checked in with ease. Due to covid we had to book a slot in the health club and also a time for breakfast. We got up to our 'delux' room. As soon as we entered we could smell a funny smell, sort of a very stale smoke smell. The room was very large with a large bed (2 singles pushed together) . The room was divided in the middle with a low unit which a tv stood on. One side had the bed the other a living area. The room was vary outdated with old dark wood battered furniture. The bath room looked a lot newer. The bath had a lovely powerful shower. View out the window was the top of a building extension which had fans on.. By all means this room was not delux and not worth twice the price of a normal double room. We went down to use the health club, only the pool is in use. Changing rooms and pool area were nice and clean . When we returned to the room we tried to order some drinks from the advertised 24hr room service but were told it didnt start till 6pm. We decided due to the limited Dinner menu we would eat out. We had a lovely Italian meal in a restaurant in Thatcham called Bella Luna. That night we had a disturbed sleep, bed was ok. Maybe a little hard. But we could hear a dull humming sound which we couldn't figure where it was coming from. Breakfast was a bit of a strange affair. Not quite sure what the idea behind it was. Once seated at the table we were given a laminate card menu. We could order 1 thing (this was suppose to be an all.included breakfast). So you couldn't have a mix of things. There was fruit and cereal to help yourself to. But you couldn't have croissants and something else like some of a fry up. No extras just the small fry up as it comes. And as for the coffee and tea it was help yourself from the large premade thermostat flasks. Yes thays premade tea.in a '4.star ' hotel. Needless to say we went away hungry and thirsty. I understand that with covid additional measures are needed but this is not encouraging people to return
