Avoid!I can only assume that Charles I and George III had very little choice in where to go in Henley. Our room was dingy and was unable to have a bath as the tap just dribbled. I had asked for a room for my mother that didnt have too many stairs - but she ended up having to walk several flights of stairs. Searching through reviews for rooms 101 and 102, faults which were mentioned 5 years ago are still relevant and the wardrobe door still doesnt shut.... PAT testing of electrical items hasnt happened for several years. The whole building requires major investment- and although it is a great location suggest avoid staying until it has new owners who care and has had a renovation.

Historic HotelWe stayed here as a overnight mini break, Im not sure what some people expect for the money in possibly the best location in the middle of Henley it is a 3 star historic hotel ( Im not sure exactly how old but 200+ years old ) that means it has uneven floors , it is tired , and things are not immaculate, if you want sterile characterless on the edge of town find the nearest premier inn / travelodge . It is £10 to park at the back of the hotel . The dining room & bar was shut due to Covid while we were there but there is a spoons 100 metre up the road which we used for alfresco brekkie or numerous other eateries as you are on the high street so no issue for us . Other people have moaned about paper cups in the room I think this is a Covid thing ( ?) if a issue consider bringing your own cups. Was our room perfect no , the wisteria has grown over the window making it difficult to see out , the sash window came down unless you jammed it up but the bed was immaculately clean and comfy . The furniture was either tired or fitting for the character of the place depending on your view point . We found the lady in reception helpful on the couple of queries we had . If we were coming back to Henley-on-Thames and the cost was close to what we paid we would definitely consider staying here again

Genuinely awful. Avoid. Stay further away if need be.I wish I'd checked the other reviews out first. We stayed here for a few nights in August as were doing some work locally. The cost was more than £100 a night and the room was filthy, the bathroom packed with limescale and a poor shower that was straight out of the 1970s. Everything was a hassle. Breakfast, strangely, was passable (although equivalent with what you'd get on an English train). They tried to con us into paying for parking which is advertised as included and the welcome is reminiscent of what you'd get at a prison. It must be tough in hospitality right now, but the people who own this hotel need to be less greedy. Poorer quality rooms are acceptable if the hotel is honest and prices them correctly. But misleading and over-charging people leads to a stream of one star reviews which is what these guys now appear to be receiving.

Miserable - avoid at all costsThe hotel is overpriced - I paid £125 plus £10 parking for a dreary room which was cold and uninviting. In the morning (7.30am ) there was no hot water at all. Phoned reception and they turned the boiler up - still no hot water, I then taken to another room - still no hot water. I stayed there for a running race in Henley and really wanted a shower before I left. The water was ice cold so could not have a shower and ended up leaving late with all the attempts to get hot water and was late for my race. The staff are unfriendly and unhelpful. I was offered a £25 refund bringing the room rate down to £100. Just dreadful the hotel was overpriced anyway and no hot water. The hotel is out of date and needs redecorating and a new boiler. Look on Booking.com and you will see many other poor reviews
