A good place in a good position marred by poor service and communication.I was previously visited this place in 2010 and had a relatively pleasing experience. Based on this I decided to go again and bring additional family in a separate room with me. We planned everything in Cape Town with a person called Avril. We were assured that everything will be as before and better. I guess the signs were there that it will be a challenge as firstly she took long to get back to us and secondly she had the dates completely wrong for our arrival and literally change it on the last minute. But, we've been there before and weren't really concerned. However, we were in for a big surprise. When we got here at 2pm, normal book in time, the building manager, Bhekhani informed us one of the rooms were not ready. But we weren't too phased cause we've been here before. When the room eventually came available, after much inconvenience, it was very badly cleaned. My apartment had the worst smell ever. When enquiring what it was Bhekhani, who was generally clueless and unhelpful, explained that they cleaned the carpets and therefore the smell. He did give us a spray. This was just a start. We found a cake of dust on the bed linen and kitchen. We reported it again and again we were promised replacement stuff and a good cleaning. This did not happen and in frustration we cleaned it ourselves. Then the next day the stove was not working. We could not find the building manager, Bhekhani, the whole day and I called Avril who said he was with her and that he will attend to our problem. He came the next day first asking whether we knew how to use the stove then establishing that it was malfunctioning. He promised to have it taken to their suppliers for repairs that day. The day we were leaving the stove was still not back. So much for self catering. We made unnecessary expenses to compensate for this key absent device. Then came the clincher. We agreed with Avril that we will leave at 2 pm as our flights we late the afternoon for which we have emails to prove she agreed. She denied this and wanted us out by 12:00pm while explaining to her it was a Friday and we attended a religious obligation and will only be back at around 1 pm. She let a very rude and badly spoken individual call me at the place of worship and insult me then threaten

Absolute Death TrapWhat once must have been one of the most spectacular places to stay in, has become an absolute death trap for residents. Maintenance has been so neglected both in and outside the rooms, that there are serious health hazards being exposed everywhere.from open electric wires, to rusted poles, to broken showers. Just about everything including air-conditioning in the heat of Durban was in not working. What made matters worse, was the absolute lack of a proper cleaning service. Rooms stood for days dirty, we had to negotiate everyday for clean towels...and to crown it all, not even this poor service was provided on new years day. The cleaning staff must have been off themselves on that day. This for a four star establishment. Not worth one star I am afraid.

Lots of potential, lacks in deliveryThe Quays on Timeball, are the second set of apartments I have stayed in in the Point Waterfont area. They are well furnished, with modern finishes, but the lack of upkeep of the unit meant that paint was peeling off in places, the microwave had rust, and the kitchen cupboards were peeling off. One of the bedroom doors had a lock that was virtually falling off. The above were perhaps the minor mishaps we could live with, but was certainly a failure for us was that we stayed at the units during the comrades marathon, and although the Point Waterfront team were made aware of this beforehand, they failed to advise that there was a club in the building across from our unit which would play loud music all night the entire weekend. This ruined the stay not only for the runners, who could not catch a wink the night before the race, but even the spectators tried to wallow away time to avoid trying to sleep through the noise.
