  Stop over enroute to Cornwall

  Very mice village, the pub and bed and breakfast are very clean, also Dog friendly . The landlord was very welcoming and gave advice as to where we should eat (no food on Sunday evening) the recommendation was also very good. My only negative point was that my room had the bathroom accross the hallway but it was exclusively for my room. We would definitely stay again

  Sunday carvery

  Really great food but massively let down by blatant rudeness of the landlady - as our friends said over our cramped dining table, "dog friendly yes, people friendly..... sadly not". Shant be coming back. Absolutely made to feel uncomfortable.

  Sunday Lunch Awful

  Meat chewy. Rude landlady. Vegetarian gravy gelatinous. Not coming back. Save your money and go elsewhere. Not a lot of choice of vegetables. Carvery lady rude. Had conflicting information from the landlady the evening before saying the carvery were very easy going and could go back for seconds. Not the case. Was told have to buy another token even for extra vegetables.

  Two nights away

  We stayed at the Phelips for two nights on our way to Cornwall. The landlady and landlord were very friendly and welcoming. Lovely old place with good food and smaller portions for smaller appetites at very reasonable prices. Good breakfast, and plentiful. Room was at the front overlooking the lovely old square - comfy bed. Tv was quite small and far away from the bed so was difficult to see. The room was chilly even though the radiators were on. Very nice village - really pretty with Montacute house around 500 yards away well worth a visit - nice little tea room. Would definitely recommend this place for a break.

  Good quality local food in pleasant surroundings

  After a visit to Montacute House we stopped for lunch. We were treated to very tasty chicken breast in mushroom and onion sauce. The flavour was excellent and the portion size generous. The staff were attentive and good conversationists. We followed lunch with a fruit crumble dessert. Again excellent. We left fully satisfied and had took a long walk round Montacute house park to walk it off.
