Ok visit for money but poor standard of rooms

Rooms: very poor quality overall-Couldnt lean back on Head board as wasnt attached, room walls are paper thin so can hear every noise in rooms nearby and hallways throughout the night, rooms werent maintained very well - flaky walls, damaged, needs a renovation desperately. However the staff were lovely & very helpful. Couldnt have dinner on site as the chef had gone home and as no other user had booked breakfast the next morning they wasnt sure if he would turn up so couldnt have breakfast either. Parking was hard to find a space in the nearby street zone but once found, the hotel supplied a parking permit for free parking overnight, just a shame wasnt closed and more accessible

Grateful for a bed BUT......oh dear

We arrived in Eastbourne on the day sadly the Claremont hotel went up in flames. So understandably the hotel industry was in chaos with many people (including us) left without a place to stay. So initially we were very grateful to be allocated a room at the Palm Court Hotel and one of their staff kindly collected us from the Shore View hotel (the second hotel wed been sent to, to have suddenly found themselves full due to the fire). With relief we dropped our bags and settled into our 2nd floor room. We asked the pleasant chap at reception if we could swap the coffee sachets provided for decaf coffee & he promised to bring some up shortly. We waited a couple of hours - none was forthcoming so trecked back down to ask again. Hed forgotten. To be honest this was perfectly understandable as the priority for them on our arrival day was to sort out the fallout from the Claremont fire. Finally restored with a much needed coffee & sit down we noticed we had a non-working bedside lamp. As the phone in our 2nd floor room also didnt work we decided to report it on our way out to go for an evening meal - the pleasant man told us hed go up & sort with a new bulb. So... all ok so far. Had a meal and a walked off the stress of the afternoon along the front & in the town. On return a couple of hours later we got up to our room to find the lamp on the bed (where wed left it) still not working. Hed presumably forgotten. I was trying not to get irritated as understood theyd had a difficult day but it was important to me to get it sorted (cant sleep if I dont read awhile first). So another trog down to reception.... the pleasant chap had gone home. We now had the guy who mans the hotel overnight. English was his second language and for a while he struggled to understand my problem. Got there in the end though and he explained its his second day in the job. And he doesnt know where the bulbs are. So... back up to the room. My hubby took the bulb from his lamp and swapped it for my non working one. We pulled back the covers to get into bed. And the photo shows you what I saw. (Appears to be baby poo or something similar) on the sheet! Now I WAS peeved! Took the sheet off the bed and took it to reception to show the bemused man who was on his second day in the job. I went upstairs with him where he tracked down the clean sheet cupboard & handed me one. I remade the bed. Shortly afterwards he knocked. Hed found us a bulb! So both lamps working now. The mattress is a bit (can feel the springs) but it was ok & we had a fairly decent nights sleep. The following night was a different story. Theyd obviously got guests come in to the room directly above us. Bit noisy and banging about in the day but we werent concerned as assumed they, like us, would be in bed at night. How wrong could we be! All night they were talking loudly, swearing and with TV on. And because the building is old the floors creak really loudly. It sounded like they might come through and land on top of us it was so loud. I kept thinking theyre bound to settle down soon and go to sleep. So gritted my teeth for a few hours. But no the racket continued....,. I put my coat over pjs (remember... the phone to reception doesnt work) And trecked down to reception .... overnight man was there. I explained. He walked up to the 3rd floor with me but wouldnt knock on the door of the people creating the problem. Frustrated and extremely tired I went back to my room and spent the remainder of the night drinking coffee & packing our stuff up so we could get out first thing. Wed had no sleep at all and driving home to the Midlands - far from ideal. As the keys were handed across to a man Id not seen before at reception this morning. I told him last night was the worst night I had ever spent in a hotel and left. We wont be back

    Palm Court excellent Customer service

Proper decent hotel , rightly Priced . Hassan the at the front desk couldnt have been more helpful . The lady that does room service was also very polite and friendly . Im writing this review as Im here . We leave Friday 7th , The hotel sorted the parking situation out to at only £1 a day for the permit . Eastbourne is a hard to park anywhere . Would definitely stay here again . Thank you Palm Court for an enjoyable stay so far The beach is 50 yards away .

    Weekend away

The hottel rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. There isn't a bar, but this isn't clear on the site. The breakfast was a very basic contintal breakfast. There were no cereals and no yoghurts. It was very underwhelming. I think the hotel would benefit from offering a better choice. The shower we had was very week. The hotel is in a great location 2 minutes from the beach and the bandstand.

    Average hotel

If I hadn't got such a good deal on the room using their app then I would have been somewhat less impressed. So the plus points were the room was clean, shower was ok, check in and out smooth and efficient, breakfast ok, wifi worked ok. But there were some issues with the room in that the tv didn't work (after having to bend in all directions to try and plug it in down the back of something), I only found this out after going down to reception to get batteries for the remote. Also the lights by the bed had cords which didnt both reach the plugs behind the bed without balancing it a bit and they weren't plugged in so I had to pull the whole bed out to sort it out. Not the kind of thing you expect to be doing in a hotel and showed a little lack of attention to detail! It was all ok though for the price, but think I'd probably go somewhere else if going to Eastbourne again.
