Tucked away but worth seeking out.To start this review, I must say that I have stayed in dozens upon dozens of accommodations around Thailand and its neighbouring countries. So, when I saw on TripAdvisor that this guest-house is rated number one for both hotel and restaurant, in a relatively big city such as Ubon, I was shocked, and decided that I had to try it out. The key here is to remember that the Thai people generally do not use TripAdvisor, so many hotels can have very skewed reviews and unreliable ratings online, as holiday makers and ex-pats will both have very different expectations, also Thais would go online and give a fake review for 30 baht ($1), or would involve many people to go online and destroy a business as a way to settle a dispute things are very different than in the West. Anyway, I was expecting the number one accommodation in a big city, something special. But when you arrive, it looks like a fairly regular Isaan style residential building from the outside, and there is only on-road parking if you are coming by car. I must say I was disappointed when I arrived. But once you are inside, it is a very relaxed and pleasant environment, and the staff are very friendly and lovely, they genuinely could not be any nicer. It is definitely a low budget guest house with a garden feel, even though it is ranked very highly, this definitely is not a luxurious place to stay, but a great value, family-run kind of place for the budget traveller. And although the price might seem great if youve just flown in from NYC or Paris (not sure how many people fly straight into UBP), remember that in this neck of the woods, its average. But the rooms are big, light and airy, with large separate bathroom, full mosquito screens, huge, comfy bed and big flat screen TV. And the Wi-Fi is fast too, nothing to complain about there! Its a shame that the restaurant and bar close so early, but then this is farmer country where most people go to bed early and get up early to go and tend to the fields, plus the place is very small, people eating and drinking late into the night would undoubtedly keep other guests awake so I suppose it makes perfect sense. So what are the issues? Staff are incredible, rooms are big and comfortable, costs very reasonable indeed, and they even have a very impressive selection of good-quality imported beers (Thai beer is awful, if you were not already aware). If I had to fault anything, I would say that it is difficult to find (but if you have phone battery you will be fine), and that it is a bit odd to find such a regular guest-house to be the number one place in such a big city although as I mentioned this may have more to do with the clientele of TripAdvisor than the residence in question. If youre looking for an upmarket resort with fitness centre, room service, and spa, then this is not the place for you, but you should have guessed that by the fact that you can book rooms online for under 600 baht a night. As with almost everything in life, you get what you pay for. But this is a pretty flawless guest-house with a few special touches, offering an oasis of proper beer and Western food in a remote part of south east Asia - just dont arrive expecting a Las Vegas style resort because of what you read online, its cosy, family-run and down to Earth, and above all, very decent value (although I was disappointed to find that Mojo seemed a bit grumpy, but maybe he was just having a tough day).

Awesome ExperienceI stayed here for a couple of nights with a group of friends and we loved every minute of the place. Clean, basic bedrooms with awesome AC and hot showers. The restaurant is seriously delicious, the best Mexican food you can find in Thailand. The owner is an American who is down to help tourists figure out what to do in Ubon.

GreatThe staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was good and the Trivia night was lots of fun. When ever I go to Ubon Ratachani I will be staying there. I also met other expats that could help me out with getting supplies for my hostel in Pakse Laos.

Bargain basementTimes are tough in hospitality because of Covid19 and that is in Ubon too. So room rates have been slashed to get bums on (comfortable) beds, hoping they will eat and drink at the great Mexican-Thai-American restaurant It worked for me. Very comfortable room with fan 3/4 fridge and air-con. Hot water and lights all worked. Strong wi-fi. No coat hangers in the wardrobe was the only blemish. Great staff especially Aimmy. Highly recommended. They don't do breakfast anymore, Just go for a little walk. Hey this is Thailand.
