    5 day business trip

checked into the old hall hotel on the 25/10/2020 and checked out on the 30/10/2020, during my stay ,which my wife came with me ,whilst i was at work ,we encountoured no problems whatsoever. The 1st night the mattrass was a bit firm ,i reported this to reception and a topper was fitted virtually straight away ,our room no.20 i think was an accessable dwelling but still nothing was compromised within it, the leisure facilities were really good ,the steam room ,sauna and jacuzzi were all functioning /clean and all patrons were respecting social distancing, lastly the food was mind blowing from breakfast until dinner, the only fault we could find was the portions were too large, for small stomachs, but that is quite rare nowadays, another small observersion was there is no hotel lobby, so you need to hang out in the pub/restaurant during the day/evening, but overall i will return as it was a very enjoyable experience.

A great place for a break

A short walk from the beach, with well appointed rooms, friendly staff and excellent gym and pool facilities. An ideal place to explore east Norkolk and the coast. The food in the restaurant is well prepared and the service is very good. This is a hotel that welcomes its guests and takes time and trouble to make sure they have an enjoyable stay, many larger chains could learn a few lessons from the hotel's attitude towards their guests. We will definitely like to return.

    A wonderful find

We stayed 2 nights immediately before lockdown 2. The Hotel, Spa and pool, all felt really safe, but relaxed. It was great that the pool, spa, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi were all open, with social distancing arrangements in place. There was a good choice for breakfast and on the bar menu. The Hotel is within walking distance of a long sandy beach. Norwich and coastal towns are within easy reach. We had a large room with a comfy sitting area. The staff were so friendly and helpful. A return visit is a must.

Good hotel but would benefit from some improvements

Our deluxe room was a good size & the room nicely decorated, the fixtures & fittings were acceptable but could be of better quality as could the toilet rolls. The room & bathroom were clean overall but the toilet bowl was not great & looked like it hadnt seen a dose of bleach for several weeks. The room dividing walls in what must be the original old building we were in are just stud partitioning making it rather noisy if there are folks in the next room. We could easily hear next doors conversations to the point we could probably have joined in. Luckily, the occupants retired at a respectable time but this could easily prove to be problematic, especially with noises you would rather not hear! We also seemed to have some sort of store room on the other side & could hear every time someone entered that. The Spa & Restaurant facilities are run as separate hotel franchises. The spa facility & gym were well equipped & excellent but are open to outside members & possibly the public so did get crowded & noisy on two days of our stay. This is common practice for most Hotel spas & is a bit of an annoyance for me; Hotel guests pay a premium room rate to stay at a Spa Hotel &, in my view, should be allowed restricted access to the facilities at certain times of the day but I suspect that would be a big ask as it would probably reduce overall revenue & put prices up. There is an excellent bar area & adjoining restaurant which, although a little chilly, was nicely decorated & very pleasant. Just as well as a local recky didnt find much in the way of half decent alternative eateries that were open & we ended up eating there all 3 nights of our stay. The food was great; fresh, quality produce nicely prepared & cooked with plenty of choice across 3 menus (one a Christmas menu). Not fine dinning but very acceptable with enough choice to suit everyones taste & excellent value including the wine prices. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of quality produce, all nicely cooked. The waiting staff was excellent, pleasant & very attentive, we couldnt fault them. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay & it wouldnt take much to lift this Hotel & facilities into the next tier level but that would probably put the price up!
