  Proper pub

  Was a bit rattled when I arrived - car problems - and the excellent staff were great in terms of offering support with the logistics (long story - but I live 200 miles away). Really friendly people. Very comfortable room combined with a proper pub and good parking. It's very hard to find this combination. Very old building but not ruined by silly modernisation. Let's just say you know you're in Wiltshire, not London (in a good way!)

  Overnight stay

  Stay here as was attending a wedding nearby. Cost of room was prefect which included breakfast. Room was lovely decent size full wardrobe and double bed with ensuite. The was tea / coffee making facilities, aswell as water and toiletries provided. Towels are also provided. Check in was easy. The car park is small and can be quite tight, but never found an issue. After a certain time at night and pub is shut the is a door just to left of pub which you can open with key on room key, this enables you to gain access back to your room which is over the courtyard, from the pub. Never found the room noisey. Very comfy. Staff in pub were friendly and happy to help. Breakfast was lovely, help yourself to juice, cereal fruit etc and hot breakfast too.   A below par lunch

  Pie and chips - £13. The pie was dry the crust was like cardboard. The room was cold, dark and the bar was supported by a line of lunch time drinkers. A very hostile environment. Overall over priced and unpleasant, i was glad to get out.

  Christmas Lunch was Delicious

  3rd year in a row my family and I have visited the old bell for Christmas Lunch. Party of 6 all meals were presented well, hot tasty and good size portions. Compliments to the chef and all the staff whom gave up there xmas day !!

  Nice Sunday lunch.

  We visit the Old Bell a few times a month but havent eaten there for a while. To be honest, previously, the food was not anything to write home about, but that seems to have changed. Firstly, its not cheap and cheerful. If you want that, theres a well known pub chain across the road, but unlike the well known pub chain which serves pre made food that just needs to be heated through, the Old Bell has food freshly cooked by a chef. Only had mains; roast beef and roast chicken, and they were both really nice. Well cooked, well presented and decent portion size. Beef was tender, chicken was moist, veg was really nice, roast potatoes were spot on and there were freshly cooked yorkies too (not the chocolate ones). I think it was £12 a go. I really recommend giving the Old Bell a go. It can get busy, so booking might be advisable booking if youre going with a group. Give it a go.
