    A poor evening spent at the Oaksmere

    Hi we booked a table with you last evening and it was not a good experience. When we entered the hand sanitisers were not working. We were taken to our table and asked if we wanted drinks. We then waited 15 min to be asked if we wanted starters. When my prawn cocktail arrived 1 piece of lettace a few prawns and the sauce was taste less . No bread was offered with it and had to ask. We then ordered mains and waited 45min for them to arrive. I had the burger and there was no bacon in it or tomato and no garnish. The guy serving us disappeared and we had to get another waiter. A very disappointing evening had by all.

    More pros than cons... glad Ive visited! Overall a lovely place

    We stayed for one night at the Oaksmere in room 12. Here are the pros: Beautiful grounds, easy to find, good location, good parking Front of house staff were lovely and helpful Hotel is generally clean Food was mostly good Late checkout- 11am Warm, welcoming hotel, comfy bed, big bedroom, amazing spa bath! View from our room was great Breakfast was AMAZING, honestly the best Ive ever had, thoroughly impressed Improvements: Patch of mould/peeling paint next to the bed (didnt look great and can be easily fixed!) Food service was very slow on both occasions for lunch and dinner Scallops werent great and were overpriced, but soup of the day, the steak and pork belly perfectly cooked The room we were seated in the restaurant was freezing, no heating/fire on Put a special request in for a passion fruit/pornstar cocktail as it was our anniversary (was asked by reception) and when it came to dinner they said they said theyd ran out? Slightly disappointed I love my cocktails haha Room was noisy early in the morning, could clearly hear footsteps of room and doors banging above us and they turned the jets on in their bath at 7am which is soooo noisy if youre in the room below! Im aware this isnt the hotels fault so to overcome this I would recommend staying in the 1st floor rooms if you like your lay ins! Overall we enjoyed our stay, dont let our cons put you off, they werent deal breakers and just wanted to share incase it helps the hotel with future customers/improvements Thankyou!

    Check the detail of your bill - worse hotel experience I ever had ...

    This excellent looking hotel with fantastic character and base-rooms of a inviting atmosphere had the makings of an relaxed comforting weekend away. The food was excellent and the dining experience (breakfast and dinner) was lovely with attentive and helpful staff. So what went wrong ... - well, the story is there were two parties - two rooms both paid for in advance by me. checking out started a catalogue of errors and poor service I have ever encountered and would have made poor Basil Fawlty blush with shame. On checkout: the other party was charged for their room (which had been pre-paid) I was presented with a bill for £492.10, (drinks and food) for which the hotel could only produce receipts for £224.32 When I queried the other parties bill (they had left after paying) I was told it would be refunded the same day My mistake was not to stay until this was sorted but I had already been at reception for an hour trying to sort this. My second mistake was to expect the manager to be a decent, responsive and honest person. When the refund didn't happen, over the course of the following two weeks, the manager didn't return any of my calls but rather emailed to say neither the bank or the hotels accounts department could find any proper payment I had told the hotel to charge all drinks and food to my guests' room I had only paid £94.90 at the time of checkout (rather than the £224.32) None of these was true. Only when I threatened to refer the matter to the police for fraud did the manager then agree to any refund if I produced copies of credit card statements and bills as her accounts department and bank were unable to verify any of the payments or charges. So, embarrassingly I had to ask my guests to produce copies of their credit card statements just to get the money their should never have been charged for. Nearly three weeks later a refund was given. During the two weeks of constantly ringing the hotel and emailing the manager not once was there an explanation of the poor practice or an apology. I received one after I asked for one once payment had been made. Never in any customer facing business have I ever come across the patron being asked to provide receipts, bills, and credit card statement to verify a fraudulence overcharge. Any staff that we encountered during the weekend and afterwards in sorting my complaint were first class in their communication and service. However, there was no shame or embarrassment from the manager - the face of its reputation and standing in the community. The person tasked with ensuring customers are billed, and charged correctly. Or perhaps this is a familiar situation and only my attentiveness stopped me being another poor-accounting victim. The hotel environment and staff would have tempted me back - but billing sharp-practicing doesn't!! Enjoy your stay and check your bill.

    Food Glorious Food

    At last we had the opportunity to get out and meet family and a couple of friends. We ventured out to The Oaksmere. Absolutely brilliant, two options to choose from their great Restaurant and their new Winter Wonderland offer. We chose Winter Wonderland, 6 of us met up and had a brilliant time. A huge marquee, decorated with a huge Christmas tree and a twinkling roof filled with white lights. We had the Grazing Menu, a new creation for Winter Wonderland designed by their new Head Chef. Mouthwatering selection of dishes kept arriving, so relaxed and chilled the whole experience was just brilliant. The staff were knowledgeable and constantly checking to make sure we were OK. Very COVID friendly, every member of staff had their individual sanitiser bottles and wearing masks, with clear signage and social distancing. We have booked another table in Winter Wonderland next week. Oh and the new cocktail list is great as well, theyve certainly been busy during lockdown. Thank you Oaksmere for a really lovely experience, we will be back.

    Amazing

    Came to the oaksmere tonight. We had the grazing menu between my group. Food was incredible, compliments to matt and his team. To top this off we had cocktails served by the bar team, we was unsure which one to go for so Lu gave us some pointers and then proceeded to make them and bring them out for us. The candy canes were a very nice festive touch Would highly recommend a booking for the marquee and I will definately be returning in the new year
