Our new place for family gatheringsFirst visit here after having been disappointed with our previous family favourite venue but their loss and the marsham arms gain. Our family from Spain comes over twice a year and we always have a Sunday lunch get together and had been recommended and I/we were not disappointed as the food was absolutely delicious and piping hot just how we like it. The service was also very good and the waitress who we had very pleasant and attentive. I suppose the only slight criticism is the price as - whereas most restaurants have a two/three course for a set price you actually had to pay for each course individually so if you have a three course you are looking at around £30 a head. Also strangely they dont do soup as a starter as an option for Sunday lunch - maybe too traditional? But that said the food is delicious.

Great staff. Excellent food. After being turned away from another pub by a rather rude server we ran the marsham arms to be greater by a lovely lady who was amazingly helpful. She got us in within 10 minutes. The food was served to perfection. As my husband is a burger fiend he declared this was one of the best he'd had. The desserts were as good. Not happy that he wouldnt swap as his was nicer than mine. Highly recommended.

Let down by absence of cooked breakfastWe booked a 4 night stay over bank holiday w/end Aug 20 via booking.com. We were led to believe all along that breakfast included meant the full English breakfast that had such great reviews & photos and was the main reason we chose this property over others. However, and presumably to save money on wages etc, they now dont have any staff in the mornings so the breakfast is no longer a cooked one, but a paper bag given to you the evening beforehand containing 2 dry croissants (no butter), OJ and some jam. NO reduction in the room rate unbelievably! We had been sent an email a few days before giving us directions etc but no mention of the dire breakfast situation. Had we been made aware, we would have booked elsewhere (we stayed a month earlier at another Norfolk inn and their breakfast offering under covid was superb). The inn serves evening meals to the public, so no reason not to do breakfasts for the guests, other than to save money (there was ample room to socially distance everyone for eating). I have now read other reviews which are similarly scathing of the poor offering - unfortunately too late for us! Most people who are on holiday go out for the day on a good breakfast & may not eat during the day - hence what was on offer was to be frank, embarrassing. The staff were helpful and when we asked for some fruit and maybe some hard-boiled eggs or cheese (hubby doesnt eat jam or dried fruit in the flapjack bar offered), they were obliging. However, eating brekkie off your knee (only a tiny round coffee table to rest on) was not the experience we were looking for. £344 for 4 nights effectively room only in rural Norfolk .... well, Ill leave it up to you to decide if thats good value or not! On a positive ( yes there is one) we ate pub food each night at the inn, which was lovely and even when the Sunday lunch was lacking a little on the meat front (they decided this, not us) they added in some rib eye steak to supplement the roast beef. Gin menu great and a G&T is just under £6, so I think that was good value. PLEASE Nigel ( the owner) if you are reading this, tell your guests in advance that there is an extremely limited breakfast offering, remove the photos of a full breakfast from booking.com and even better, start doing the cooked breakfast again! If not, I fear word will get around and your bookings will suffer. Also, my credit card had been debited in advance almost £100, when the booking conditions state that no prepayment will be taken and that you settle your bill directly at the inn. We had to pay in full upon arrival, without even being able to see the room to our satisfaction first! For these reasons, I CANNOT recommend a stay at the Marsham Arms Coaching Inn, Hevingham Norfolk. However I can recommend a pub meal there. Kindest regards, Susie & Nigel
