Too bad there isn't the option to award zero pointsThe hotel is located on the shabbiest Street in Stonetown, in the middle of the flea market. The street reeks, to get there you need to literally drive through stands selling every conceivable low quality and low cost item. The rooms are not clean, the bathrooms stink, not to mention that, to get to the rooms you have go through an internal labyrinth of hallways and stairs. The mosquitoes are aplenty and throughout the night we heard the relaxing sound of a blaring alarm. Definitely a sh**hole.

Stay away!My expectations were extremely low, but they managed to get way below :( I had previously been in a tent for a week on Kili and it was 10 times more comfortable. Noisy, dirty, smelly, 35+ degrees celsius in the room, rude reception clerks. The street it is on is no treat either - smelly noisy fleamarket. You can't really ask for less - a typical s&@£-hole PS: be cautious of the many positive reviews - not quite the power travelers

Never again! We were a big group and choose somehow this "hotel" I have been traveling for many years and I have rarely seen such a mess. The neighborhood was bad, quite an adventure to reach it in the evening. The bathrooms smelled like 10 rats died in there. All night an alarm sounded in the neighborhood, so no chance to get some sleep. The air conditioning machine was 30 years old and was really noisy. For 60 USD per night you can do much better in Stone Town.

Yes, it's located in the market, hence the name!I don't really understand all the negative reviews for this place. It's on a busy street, and it's busy because it's the main street of a huge market, so the name Market Lodge is quite appropriate. However, we had no trouble with noise from the street, and our experience staying here was quite good! The room was $50 USD for two people, which included airconditioning, wi-fi and a basic breakfast buffet. We were on the top floor, which also had great views of Stone Town and beyond. I suppose if you're not used to traveling in more developing cities, you could be a bit put off by the location or worry about your safety, but we had no problems at all. The staff were also helpful and arranged a taxi to the airport for us the following day, as well as let us keep our bags behind the reception for the whole day.
