Appalling!Stayed here last night. I have to say the setting is beautiful the hotel needs some TLC here and there but its expected with the age of the manor. Front of house were polite and service was good! This is where it gets bad! Handed the menu and I felt like I was in a weatherspoons pub! I was a bit reluctant but choose the monkish scampi to start and chicken for main! The scampi was tasteless and you could clearly tell came from a freezer, the aioli tasted like cheap mayonnaise, Moving onto the chicken bland, and sauce tasted bitter. Veg was Half a carrot and some greens tasteless! The menu just looked bland and like I said reminded me of dishes you could get from youre local weatherspoons. I would expect more for such a beautiful setting! Get a new chef

An average Champagne afternoon tea - perhaps team are Groupon weary??Friends booked us a Groupon Champagne afternoon tea. The setting is beautiful and the Hotel steeped in history and character though needs a little TLC. The restaurant/tea room again needing renovation, in a property this old you expect and enjoy creaky floorboards and worn carpets but it needs money spent on it. The service for afternoon tea was attentive (there were only 4 tables occupied ). The quality and selection of sandwiches was pretty bad (smoked salmon was dry and tough the cucumber sandwich was soggy and unappealing. The fruit scones on the verge of burnt (the sultanas on top crispy and bitter tasting and burnt to a crisp). The little cakes were ok and the English breakfast tea very nice. Overall disappointing, when we were leaving a couple arrived and informed receptionist they had booked afternoon tea "do you have your voucher?" was the instant reply. I appreciate there are a lot of Groupon vouchers sold but this gets customers through the doors. Perhaps the team are Groupon weary?.

Absouluty freezing cold kept our coats on in hte dining roomCold welcome, cold atmosphere, we parked the car at 3pm, we went in waited five mins for a table, the cream tea was just plonked on the table without a word, we were not spoken to by any member of staff in the dinning room, having finished some dry scones and freezing cold sandwiches we departed and drove out of the car park at 3.30pm This place must be in financial trouble or wanting to close the staff are just not interested in anything.
